I didnt expect to loose so many hairy shroom's.
Slowly changing my system to be more hard coral friendly (increased PH to 8.1+, ALK now at 10, lowered phosphate to avg: 0.09~0.1, nitrate lowered to 10~12). No other changes (lighst schedule, water flow etc remain same)
This is before the change:

and this is now:

My other shrooms (common reds) which where not doing good are now coming back.....
Thoughts please.....

I wonder if the nutrient drop was too much or too quick?

I have these and they are bulletproof in almost any parameters. But haven’t done fast nutrient changes.

This is very surprising. Mushrooms are very hardy and should thrive in any condition.

Did they disappear or melt? How did the shrooms go away?

If it was a rapid nutrient shift, the stonies would've been the first to react. Any other changes?

It could also just be an overall shift in coral types in your system, which may change the dynamics enough that certain corals no longer thrive in that system? Sometimes we never know what causes these issues, we just come up with some mind stories that seem plausible. I found over the years that certain corals just don't thrive in systems, but put them in another and they're happy. Our closed systems are very unique, in that there's no other system like them. Hopefully they bounce back for you? Are you doing routine water changes? If not, it might be worth it to do several in order reduce anything that's built up over time.

Yeah, it can't hurt. I know AFR is an all in one solution, but elements deplete in different amounts, so it's never 1 to 1 replacement, which is why it's important to do routine water changes. I'm starting to do them now. I still dose trace elements, but over time things can build up to toxic or non-favorable levels, which should be reduced by water changes. The other thing you can do when the system is humming along, is to do an ICP test to get a baseline for when everything (or most everything) is happy. Then if things are changing or not doing well, you can do another ICP and see the difference.

Watching. I’m in a same boat - Yumas turned clear and melted. I lost some Godzillas mushrooms the same way — across 2 separate tanks. SPS are doing fine, everything doing fine, except certain mushrooms…

I’m still learning in this hobby after 30+ years…ugh
