Turns out Ive been using a unit from home depot that is only R/0 to top of my water and to make saltwater. Ive never really had the really nice colors that other people have and Im wondering if this is the problem. Does it really make a difference if its only R/O and not R/O DI??Im looking into getting a hanna meter to read my water. Thanks guys

If i remember correctly. The TDS reading around 12ppm after the membrane. If you have the DI which will drop it down to 0.00 TDS. You can get the additional canister from filter direct for $40 with two huge canister of DI. BTW, the canister is the same size with your prefilter which will hold lots of DI resin :D:D

RODI drinkable but it has a blank taste to it. You can make a split after the membrane with a Tee, one end will go to the DI, the other will to go the pressurize container. If you don't have the pressurize container. i have two, paid $40 from filter direct which not being use. You can have it for $20. It is 4g pressurize container

I got a tds meter over the holidays and the water I was using measured at 25 ppm. Thanks okay for drinking, but for a reef tank I know you want it at 0.00. Im not sure the negative effects of a high reading? Maybe Steve can explain.

i was able to trade several of my sps frags for a 4 stage kent unit. I added an additional DI stage to it and the reading is 0 ppm. I will do several water changes in the next week or so and see if theres changes in my corals.

so sandman, you use an extra/seperate Chloramine filter? where exactly did you put it in the series. and have you noticed any other of your filters lasting longer before you have to replace them (RO or DI)??

For whatever reason it is recommended NOT to drink DI water in the long run, supposed to be bad for your health, must be messin with ur ions? Ive seen warnings in several places, but have yet to learn the actual reason why. As a side note, many health nuts actually try to increase the ionization of thier drinking water, increase alkalinity and/or maintain a negative orp. Got no clue why or even if that statement even makes sense!!

Anyways drinking water should be tapped off the ro stage only, besides saves you on resin!!

I think I heard/read somewhere that the RO/DI water gets absorbed into the bloodstream IMMEDIATELY and it throws your pH in your system off. (Altered pH throws off your system) Also, it tends to strip some of the nutrients in the blood.
