Hi all,

If anyone thinks they can save this torch, you are welcome to come by and pick it up in Irvine, free to good tank. It's been hanging on since mid-Dec after bleaching for unknown reasons, but I can't seem to bring it back. Maybe someone more experienced can do it. Let me know!

U had it, next to the hammers.
They lived very peacefully together for about 8 months, and I never noted any evidence of stinging. I think the bleaching occurred from some parameter swings that might have occurred while I was on travel, but hard to tell. I came back from one trip to a very low ALK and zeroed out PO4 and only 1-2ppm NO3, so might have been that which caused the bleaching. Upping PO4 and NO3 hasn't helped it yet.

Alk swing is probably what did it in. Happened to me when I upgraded tanks. I'd keep it out of flow and get ur params back in check. Moving it to another tank will only stress it further. Try some coral revive, could be beneficial. My kyrptonite trumpet was down to skeleton, but bounced back after ~2 months of good care. Good luck, hope it makes it!

Thanks @Drakeknocking that's what I'm guessing too, although seems to be the only coral affected by the Alk swing.

I got parameters back in check in mid December. No luck with the torch so far, so it needs to go somewhere else or it will die. Showed some more skeleton today, but I did manage to feed it a bit. It opened it's mouth after target feeding some oyster/roti/pac pods/arcti pods/phyto feast soup, so it's not completely gone.

Feeding is a good sign! Hopefully it bounces back. Wish I could take it, but my 20 is maxed out lol. Too many torches already in my tank.

I would keep params stable and feed it-not sure moving it is the answer. Might want to run carbon if you suspect chemical warfare. Sometimes it takes months for coral to recover from stress.

I second this. The switch from one tank to another can be devastating to a coral in that type of condition because of the massive change in environment & having to go through the stress of acclimating to that new environment. If the switch would have been made on day 1, it would have had higher chances. At this point is best to leave it in your system & having it bounce back. Good luck

Thanks everyone for the tips, and I generally agree with everything said here. My post is more to say I've tried to revive the torch but so far failed (haven't tried KFC dip, but I think that might be out of the timeline for the torch). That and my travel/work schedule don't give me much confidence in nurturing this guy back to health, so I'm donating it to another tank as more of a hail Mary.

Like everyone else, keep parms stable and leave it alone. Feed it when it starts showing signs of recovery.

I was able to save my cotton candy torch after an alk spike when I was on vacation. I did move the small rock it was on to an area with slightly less flow and light compared to the others. One head was receding and showing skeleton. I was able to stop the receding but the flesh never grew back on the skeleton and you can see coraline grew over it
