You gotta treat Sherman's like CSBs... they get infected or poisoned easily with other nems in the same tank. I've lost 2 big ones before my n00b ass figurred it out and did a Sherman only tank (mixed reef but only one BTA specie).

But these are awesome deals if they're true Sherman's. I sold my last one for $500 before I switched to CSBs (with a Cipro reset).

Is this an urban legend or is there scientific evidence that suggests that multiple Entacmea Quadricolor species cannot coexist in the same tank? Although it can be an expensive experiment, I think they they are all the same right? Just different color morphs?

Currently, I have Haddonis and Colorados in the same tank - no issues, although they don’t touch each other. However, I don’t mix multiple BTAs…because of stupidity and fear! I do run carbon & UV. Hope one of these days, we can find the real reason how/why these things sting/kill each other?

From the sunburst FB group (not that they’re the definitive scientific voice on the matter), it’s more about the bacteria and whatever terpenes a wild BTA or recent maricultured BTA brings into the system.

Since CSBs and Sherman’s have been long aquacultured and not been needing to fight off the bacteria of the wild, their immune systems aren’t as strong so over time they are more susceptible to newer species introducing something.

So even with a frag plug from a system with wild BTAs can infect a CSB.

I had rbtas with Sherman’s before… but that only lasted 6 mos before “something happened”. The first thing that happened when adding a Sherman, my Rbtas split like crazy. So something happened to caused a stress split.

After a while the Rbtas started to string and the Sherman looked like it was trying to expel its guys every night.

Eventually all died. I didn’t have cipro on hand back then though.
