My Tank Build

Let's share our experiences with leaching magnets in our aquariums

So a year or so I broke the plastic bolt on a mp40 wetside. Well instead of buying a new one from ecotech I went down to the hard ware store and bought a nylon blot and nut. Well the bolt was a little fatter then the stock bolt. So I drilled the hole out a little bigger on the wetside magnet. I must of hit the magnet and exposed the magnet inside the plastic casing. I did epoxy the bolt in place. The darn thing ran great.

A few months after fixing the wetside my tank slowly started taking a plunge south. I had stuff dying for no reason and colors fading. I coulding figure it out. Until 3 months ago I took out the mp40 wetside for cleaning and found this

Some how SW found its way past the epoxy and into the magnet and was causing the iron to leach into the tank. As soon as I found this I took the mp40 wetside out and ran carbon heavily for a bit. A month or so after getting the wetside out stuff started bouncing back and my tank hasn't looked this great in a while.
