Why not mix the entire box/bucket with the advertised volume? Add it to a clean 55g drum of rodi water to get sg 1.025. that way any deviations in SG, alk, ca, mg are the fault of the manufacturer and not yours.

I understand people buy buckets or boxes in bulk to save, but using portions of the bucket or box leads to errors as the salt contents will settle, or spread unevenly. People roll buckets on the floor or really shake up boxes before use... PITA!

I think it was oregon reef that bought a 150g plastic drum and added an entire bucket of his favorite salt for his monthly 150g water change. It was so smart.

Remember to clean the contrainer first, then add RODI, then add the salt to the water while mixing for best results. Never add water to the salt or you will precipitate out minerals.

cool.

theres nothing wrong with storing mixed salt water; it may even be better. you could mix it 55g 1x every 5 weeks, just keep a tight lid on it.

Im all for less work!:whoo:

Maybe I'm not reading this right but you aren't adding saltwater to the tank to account for evaporation are you? RODI should be added to make up for evaporation...

I fill my 300g mixing container with 200g RODI, ad a TMP 200g bucket and mine mixes at 1.023, most salt mixes mixed to specs come out around 1.023.

I thought you shouldn't store salt water more than 3 days?
You shouldnt store topic marin bioactif, or salts with added organics because bacterial will start to grow.

Lotsa people actually recommend aging salt water several days to weeks to stabilize the chemistry. As long as you aerate, have a little circulation and prevent evap, it is fine. Ive stored Tropic Marin Pro for 1month with no problems. Of course, check the chemistries before adding.

BTW, Rukis great setup! An excellent example of what I was getting at. I use 2x 55g drums. I would go larger of space allowed. I used to sell salt water to my neighbors for $1 per gallon hehe...

wow....$1 per gallon you're expensive....lol.....but I would probably pay for it if I know I was getting quality salt water.....but as for what I'm doing with evaporation....it depends on the salinity level to determine if I am adding saltwater or fresh water....isn't that what you guys are doing or am I not doing it right.....my corals and fish are doing fine and have good growth.....
