Hey does anyone have a decent list of sand sifting gobies. I need to get one for my 10gal that doesnt have a lid. I was hoping to get one with some color because he is prob the only fish i will put in there.

You don't want to keep Gobies without having a lid on your tank. They are jumpers, big time. Some more then others I'm sure

I really like my orange spotted diamondback Goby, it has a lot of personality. Mine usually stays visible but likes to dig and make little cave homes that he sometimes stays in. When you first get one you may not like the mess it makes, but after a little while that gets much better (at least mine did).

Make sure you feed it correctly, some LFSs (like a local one I no longer visit) might tell you that these guys don't need food because they are eating bacteria off the sand; this may be true but that would be like skipping meals because you have tic-tacs. This *may* not be a problem in a larger more established tank with lots of copepods. Mine loves frozen Mysis shrimp and is doing MUCH better since I started feeding that.

Yes, but it isn't a tight seal, I have glass but my light has legs that get in the way so there is a big space at the back (~2 inches) and another in the middle (1 inch).

I've never seen my Goby jump out of the water but he can get moving pretty quick after a piece of food so I can understand the concern.

Hey MechaSamurai, bary some frozen blood worms in your sand bed. Your goby will enjoy life with a full stomach.

He has been doing great now, but following the advice of two idiots at two LFSs (that just wanted to sell me tiger-pods) I let him get pretty skinny. He is healthy & active now and really loves frozen mysis shrimp. If I see frozen blood worms that are less than 90% moisture I'll give that a try.

Diamond gobies are awesome too. I've had lots of success with them in the past when I ran a few tanks with SB's. I now run a BB tank and love it which means that's one less fish to worry about. I've also had several of them get spooked and jump right out so make sure you do keep a lid for a little bit of time.

probably better off with a randalls or yashahasha, diamond goby will die in your tank from starvation/or jumping out
