Im starting a 55 Gallon reef tank. Im in the process of planning out what fish, corals and invertebrates. I have about a 3 inch sand bed right now and want to get a good group to do some sand sifting. Im thinking of doing a goby/shripm pairing right now. But I dont thonk theyll be enough by themselves. I just dont know what other sandsifters I can put in that will pair well with them.

I have 2 conchs in my 13.5 gallon. One of them moves around quite a lot. Lots of ceriths, too; Florida ceriths, African ceriths, Cortez ceriths, etc. The Nassarius, which I read sift sand, don't seem to do much except pop in and out to eat.

Is there a particular reason you are going so deep? I now you mentioned you are getting back into the hobby. Not many deep sand beds anymore

It might not be quite 3 inches . But when I was doing my research in the goby shrimp pair they reccomended a 2-3 inch sand bed.

I believe an aragonite sandbed helps to keep PH Stable. I have had deep sand beds in all my tanks and never had any issues with them. My old 240 was set up for 20 years. I used some of the send from it for my new 300 which is now 7 years old. the sand is not pristine but far from unsightly. I feel it just looks more natural plus I have wrasses that sleep in the sand as well as a sand-sifting goby, a pistol shrimp and snails that live in the sand.
