I’m pretty sure I’ve purchased something from him a while ago.
Where do you live that it takes you three hours to get to Rancho?? I hate when this happens. I always like to have a phone number and confirm an appointment before I leave

South San Diego. We were meeting at 8am so I left by 4:30 anticipating traffic which there was plenty of in the morning going both ways. Done a lot of trades and bought a lot of stuff never had an issue till this time. And to this day still he hasn’t responded, I was giving him the benefit of the doubt and offering him a chance to clear his name. I now know it wasn’t a mistake but he is definitely a scammer . Gave him multiple avenues to contact me and the guilty stay hidden. Now everyone knows.

Did you send him money? Should dispute the charge if you did with your CC or paypal.

He asked for cash. So no money involved other than 6 hours of drive time and extra hour of waiting for him and tank full of gas.

Dude, that sucks. It's more of the time than anything else. Scam-aside, it's a very inconsiderate thing to do. Hopefully he'll do something to make up for it. Not sure if he checks this forum though.

I’ve dealt with Gari a few times myself and it has always been good interactions. He does work crazy weird hours so he is hard to get ahold of. Heck he even held some corals for a few weeks that were dropped off by another reefer for me.

Well if he is a good guy, I’m guessing he will do the right thing. Patiently waiting....almost 5 days now.

The title is misleading. Just saying. Since no money was involved and cost of time and gas are not part of the deal (that's on you), it's not technically a scam. He didn't profit out of your wasted time + gas.

Inconsiderate, yes. Shady, yes. Flake, maybe. Scammer, no since no money was involved and no money was taken.

No one goes around scamming people for time and gas wasted. Moat reefers are flakers, it's a reality. I've driven to San Diego myself and having that possibility of being stood up. But luckily, people show up.

Unfortunately, this is the nature of the hobby. It use to be a tight community, now it's like the wild west. No wonder no one buys from anyone anymore. No more trust or dedication. Sucks.

I do have to admit thought why he hasn't responded, hmmnn.

For some time is money, so it all depends on who you ask, because you never get it back. Since opening this thread a lot of people have contacted me, out of the woodworks, and said this individual has done the same to them. Once it happens maybe a flaker, several times it happens that’s a scammer in my opinion. But shady is a correct statement. Someone who doesn’t want to clear their name, has already admitted guilt and the public has now been cautioned before doing doing business with him. He made his own bed to sleep in. Trust is everything in this community.

Somebody check on him. He might be in serious trouble now that he cannot come meet the OP. Has any one been able to confirm that he is OK?
