Scammers and DMs

So I recently just got DM's regarding spam and scammers, please report it, and I'll do my best to ban those fools. Tired of their BS.

I recently got permission from Mike to look at the "reporting" queue, and obviously, I can't get to all of them because it's years of backlog. But I'm going to start banning only scammers and people who reach out to DM to spam/reach out to another email BS scam. I will not have the bandwidth to look at every report about FS, new members, etc. Sorry.

New members, please put your location in your profile. Because my tolerance is running low, if you put in some weird location...you just might get banned. And please introduce yourself in a thread or post, that will help me assess if you are a bot or not.

I've already went through 2026 reports, and banned a lot of people trying to scam and spam.

There might be an uptick in spam since I went back to approved a lot of folks that was in the queue. Some are easy to spot and rejected. There are literally people in queue from 2019 LOL. I'm not going all the way back, just to start of 2026. While others are borderline iffy, so I have to approve. These might be spammers, so please report if people start hitting you up with deals too good to be true or weird off topic things, or contact to another email etc. Or if they are some weirdos, just report and I'll look into it. And if the seller is pretty new with no posts or don't know jack about reef, probably don't do business with them...no matter the deal. The Ban is going to be enforced quickly. Ain't nobody got time for that! So it would help me tremendously, if you add more detail into your profile...name, city, etc. If I can't tell if you are real or not, you might be banned.

Kind of makes sense why there isn't any new members, seems like it's always the same folks online.

No admin/mods were approving member approval requests for years. The backlog is huge.

I've spent hours just approving some old requests, I'm working backwards and got to mid 2025.

I spent all day going through and finished 2025 approval queues, and I think I'm going to stop there. Probably close to 1000 requests, but 95% were BS spammers that I rejected manually. I have carpal tunnel now. LOL.

Please report any new funny business with report button.

Thank you so much for approving me! I signed up for an account over a year ago and never got approved until today. I’m a real person and not a scammer, but I may have tried to make several accounts thinking it was an email issue.

Keeping your work on my mind as we deal with huge scammers at work too. AI doesn’t help with its ability to look and sound real (phone calls). Keep up the good work!

My favorite scam is when they Zelle using a stolen CC, and ask for you to please return the funds because they used the wrong card to Zelle.

When You send the money back, they cash out straight from your bank account. And the bank will not credit your money back.

I've learned to do business with people that are active on the forum and shows their reefing hobby. Most scammers will pretend to know the hobby, but won't actively participate in the forum. Beware, scammers are using AI now, so it'll be harder to discern. Safest is to meet in person and buy it with cash.

New one... had one call the other day saying they were from the bank and they stopped some fraud zelle charges before they showed up in the account. They "blocked" the zelle's, and then just needed me to do a "mock" zelle to them to make sure it was working again.

Thanks to Apple (did I just say that?) my phone blocks all calls and messages that aren’t in my contacts. Then I can further block/report & delete/report spam. I love it with the tons of scam calls every day. I think the more cautious we are the better protected we are and as a community, I’d have to agree with Jimbo327 that it’s better to meet up with people here. Wish I was closer to most of you! Gonna update my tanks soon for you all…it’s been a rough year in my household!
