I'm really gonna test they system with this wild aussie enchinata from Carson's Tropical Fish. It wasn't mounted to anything so I don't think it's maricultured. Looked a little sketchy yesterday after heavy dipping but the polyps are out today. View attachment 106460

I really do need to get a replacement pump for my bad Tunze, low level flow is lacking now. I'm leaning towards 2 x 4k gyres and hydros WaveEnginev2.
Nice! I'm only using potassium chloride as a dip now, which is pretty damn good for most everything and it's gentle on the corals. The wave engine with gyres is a pretty good combo, just buy extra cages and impellers for each pump. That way it only takes 5 minutes to clean/swap them. I pull the impeller shaft once a month or so and use a bottle brush to clean out the motor block and shaft. If you keep up on swapping out the cages/impellers, then you don't have to give them a citric acid bath but once a year.
Also, there's no such thing as a dud millie, they're all great! I love the $30-$40 frags.

That's awesome @hugo's_reef! They do have some gems there for sure and that's a killer one. I agree, I'm not sure why he uses those DIY and knockoff LEDS on the frag system. It seems like they aren't the right blue for pop? G5s in the back but it's tough to see detail in such a large tank.

It looks like a good setup and if I go with the full wave engine I can control 4 pumps. It is kind of a bummer additional adapters need to be bought for each pump but it'll be nice not to have all the power supplies and controller clutter. I'll use it to control the tunze I have left but if the gyres work well I may go all gyre. I'm leaning towards 4k because I believe they come with black and orange impellers, so I'll just need to get a set of cages for each.

I'll have to try that potassium chloride. Bayers is pretty fool proof for the corals but I really don't like having it around the house.

Yeah, I still have Bayer in my locker, but haven't used it in a long time. Polyp Lab Reef Primer and UWC Expel are both potassium chloride dips, but expensive. I bought a 2lb bag from Amazon, which should last me a very long time.

Tongs has some hidden gems , I feel their tank lighting doesn’t help see the true potential I’m some of their pieces.

I think I have a decent eye or get lucky quite a bit, being able to see some potential in coral under bad lighting.

Here’s one I got from them and instantly fell in love. In their tank it was really tucked away and looked to be a little pale and

this video/pic was taken the next day from when I got it. Clearly it wasn’t pale just

Thanks guys. That's the plan! I'm going to hack back the ORA Frogskin here soon and let this piece grow out that way. I plan to keep it at bay on the Oregon Tort side though, I really love that tort.

I've got 3 x xf350's showing up on Tuesday from BRS and a Hydros WaveEnginev2 with gyre cables coming from Premium Aquatics. I should be able to get some great flow in there. It's good right now but some areas need to get absolutely annihilated in order to get decent everywhere else. I've noticed some pieces cupping out do to flow. I'm going to shoot for strong evenly distributed flow and I'm hoping the gyres will be able to hold onto my overflow. Maybe I'll get lucky and wont need the gyre on the side viewing pane that way if that's the case.

Nice! Lmk if you need a hand programming the WE? I primarily use sps reef during the day and LPS reef at night with some "storms" throughout the day and night. I actually like to crank up the flow at night to kick up detritus when all the fish are tucked in.

Will do! Once I get familiar with it I'll hit you up. I like the storm idea.

Thanks guys.

@Dorado that is my current favorite section. Those 3 are touching and playing nice so far but the oregon tort is too slow, I'm going to have to trim back the mill and frogskin here soon. Once that ASD Rainbow and a pink millepora that's not in the shot fills in it's gonna be nice. I might try and squeeze something truly yellow in there too.

@BST310, haha thanks man. If you start keeping acros hit me up I gotcha man. That last one is my no namer I almost lost. It looked like a wannabe shazam piece but currently looking a bit different. I think it just needs to grow more and it'll start looking like before.

@mattyzang Yeah dude, that's the one I keep checking on now :) Trying not to get my hopes up since it is a wild enchinata but so far so go. This is gonna be one if it makes it, it's gonna get spread around for a better shot at long term survival

Nice! Looking great, Matt! I'm glad that piece survived and is making a comeback. Those echinatas are hard to pass up when they come in like that, just a great looking acro. Hopefully I can trade you something in the future for another frag? I was really bummed when I lost the one you gave me. I might have to swing by and check everything out when I pick up my frag of voodoo magick for the grow out?

Always welcome over here John. Just let me know when.

The enchinata is going on about 2 weeks. I'm tempted to cut a few branches off it for backups to the colony. If it's something you want let me know and I'll get you a piece.

That blue smoothie piece is still my favorite to date. It looks like it's waking up so once I can get a decent chunk off it I'll get you another piece. Too small and it just seems to stall up forever.

Yeah, I'll definitely let you know when I pick up my voodoo magick. You might consider waiting a little bit before you frag the echinata, just to let it settle in more and put on some growth. Wild ones are very touchy, when you see some polyps and a little growth, then you may be in the clear? But I get wanting to have a backup asap.
