Nice! I need to get a porthole for my Nikon. I also have a Tamron 90mm. Although, I really want a Nikkor 105mm, but that’s some serious coin.

Yeah some of those macro lenses are super expensive. This one's been working pretty well so far. Macro is tough in the tank for me, really gotta crank up the f stop to get most of a frag in the picture. That means cranking up the ISO then I get a bunch of noise.

I was hesitant to buy this porthole but it was worth every penny. I've gotten tons of use out of it over the last couple years. I really like the rubber feet on the bottom to protect the the clear acrylic. I did notice some glare from light coming in the top and reflecting back into the camera. I've been wrapping a microfiber cloth around the lens at the top and the images are much more clear. I'll probably end up cutting some filter foam to fit. It'd be nice if they came up with some type of flexible gasket for the lens to slide through and eliminate that. Otherwise it's super well thought out and built

Excuse the cloudy water I was pulling rubble from the sump to mount a few new pieces. 400w 14k Hamiltons came in today. These suckers are bright! I'm a little more confident I can start mounting some smoothie types on flat rock around the bottom pane now.

New mariculture piece. I think it'll be a good looking addition under 14k halides once it settles. Looked like a cream color under g5s, have to see what it does under halides. Was surprisingly colorful under blue bars while mounting it tonight

Roll of the dice spontaneous tenuis purchase. I saw one crevice in this mari colony that had some insane colors in it. The rest of it was colorless, like this frag. Hopefully it settles in and gets some of that dark rainbow I was seeing.

I used potassium chloride as a dip for the first time tonight. The mari colony slimmed like a mofo and had me sweating. Hopefully they look decent in the AM with some PE. I feel they look a little more stressed than after a bayers dip but it was nice to not have to trip on using something so toxic.

Also I moved this smoothie I've had for a while to the front of the tank on the bottom. It's been a few days and I see an improvement in hints of color and PE. Good flow and now great light down there. The Enchinata piece looks insane under 14k.

What potency for the dip and how long? Sliming hard does seem common ime
I went 2 tabelspoons per gallon. After searching around on R2R that seemed to be what most people were doing? I threw in a tiny sicce pump to mix it up and stir it continuously. Lights arent on but they look like they made it through the night.

for how long?

i do 1 tablespoon per gallon, but i do it longer for like 20-40 minutes. i know some people do stronger, but for shorter times. i keep meaning to give that a whirl, but i kinda like the slower process

I think if you’re using 1tbl/gal then 20 minutes and longer is fine, but at stronger concentrations, I think cutting the time a little is fine. I think some people will reduce the time for smoothies, but kcl is pretty light on corals compared to other harsh dips out there. I think you would have to mix a pretty strong concentration before it did damage to corals.

I only did 10 minutes. I saw SBB and a few others on the other forum doing that. My house is always pretty cold so I don't like to do too long as the temp in the container drops off so much.

Do you feel the lighter dose for longer is less stressful on them?

yeah i've kinda worried about that when i've added stuff lately. i've been keeping my house at like 67-68 so it's cool in here, but i also have been doing the entire gallon so hopefully that has more staying power

i can't really say on the more or less stressful since i've never done the more potent shorter dip, but i can't say i've lost a single acro frag due to the dip, so i'm hesitant to change it. it seems more forgiving at least from what i've heard about the more potent shorter dip. i mean with 1 per 1g you can legit leave it in there for 20-40min and i've heard even an hour. where i've heard people say with the shorter dip if you leave stuff in there for too long it's bad news, but no personal experience on that

Matt, thank you for letting me hang at your place yesterday. Your tank is looking great and some of those pieces are looking super cool. Thanks again for the frag, it should be cool to see how it colors up compared yours.

Anytime you're in the area just drop by man. Always welcome over here. This strawberry lemonade is awesome, thanks again!

Hopefully that piece turns out to be a looker.

New mari frag. Crazy under blue led, but not so crazy to where I've got some hope this thing will be lavender base with yellow tips under daylight too. Time will tell I guess? A cool color combo regardless. Labeled as Malaysian.

RR Robin Hood granulosa from Reefer0708. He felt I should try to hit it with a good amount of par to try and get some red out of it. It's up top as close between 2 reflectors as I can get it. Daylight, it's looking nice for being right out of a dip. Similar to my AOA gran, but under blue it was looking pretty wild in comparison.
