So who felt that earthquake and how much water did you lose?

F = mA. Your larger tank, regardless of stand will have less acceleration than a smaller tank. The force applied to both tanks are the same.

Makes sense but force would actually be the mass of water itself my 175 gal water storage made out of wood wobbled which was not video and that’s a lot heavier

Your external force is constant. Your mass is constant. If you do the math, your bigger tank is accelerating slower.

I have a frag tank on wheels. If I slowly move it, faster and faster, no water will spill. If I suddenly jolt it (faster acceleration) then more energy is exerted causes a pulse.we haven’t even gone into pulses and harmonics.

In other words, you’re assuming both tank of water are accelerating at the same speed which is not true.

I thought this thread was about surveying water loss from the earthquake, not two dudes in a swinging fest trying to appear smarter than the other.

Lol. Not swinging. Don’t mean any offense to anyone. Just a discussion back and forth. Figure these forums and groups are to learn and I’ve learned a lot from this community.

Figure this is just a discussion to understand how we can reduce spillage right? Theoretically stand material don’t matter as much as the amount of mass in the tank. Nanos could potentially spill more and tanks on higher floors are gonna spill more.

Just my $0.02. :)

Yeah could just be my perspective but this did not seem like a discussion to inform. lol
Doesn’t really matter anyways, I just find threads that turn out like this very comical. Us humans are very interesting creatures in our logic. Haha

Nah I get it. Just like any other textual medium it’s difficult to portray tone and attitude. This emojis and emoticons. :p

In any case we can’t all be right and sometimes to inform means that one person might be wrong. And that could be me! Despite studying engineering, physics was one of my worst technical subjects. I’m just glad I remember enough of it.

Regardless, there’s enough misinformation in this hobby, I think it’s important to share perspectives. I could be totally wrong about wood vs metal stands. But was offering a scientific approach to it and help correct logical fallacies where observed. I’d appreciate anyone who’d do that for me.

Again, no disrespect or offense to the OP. Spirited debates never hurt anyone. And through it all we’ve been mature about it and haven’t called each other names or judged anyone. So certainly not “swinging”. And believe me, I’ve got no problems confronting people... but this is t the community for that. At least that’s MHO.

I think it offers a semi good debate which I do miss on this forum. A lot of the things you said all stand true and I can’t agree more it’s just I observed first hand experience of what happened and video I posted had me thinking. If you were to fill up a building full of water would it splash out or tip over during an earthquake if it were made of wood vs steel bars?

The quake seemed like it lasted forever! My tank is eurobraced and kept the water in. My heart skipped a beat watching it though!
