the clubs and the forum are totally different things... i'm in clubs that are over 80 years old and have nothing to do with any sort of forum or social media... they sorta both benefit from one another, but they don't need each other....
the truth is, forums are on their way out... you get more out of facebook groups, instagram and even email bulletins if clubs use them... i still belong to several forums, but the ones for plants, knives, bikes and other things are dead just like this one... |
also, new reefers are horrible, terrible people...
the end...
You are absolutely correct....
...about the use of fb over generic internet forums.
It is due to ergonomic accessibility, but not anything to do with function or form.
It used to be that any forum could be created using any generic forum builder, or a .phpbb version or similar, and within a manner of weeks or days competently run it.
That was back when smart phone users did not exist as a user statistic, tapatalk was a laughable curiosity, and everyone who accessed forums did so at work while they were bored and still watched Netflix on their computer.
Times have changed. Every successful online business has to have an app, even if they are a non profit. That app has to have movement (reasons to keep checking) such as calendars of events, important updates from the business, and flagging to relevant product (topics) from unique user data (keyword/followed threads) which notify the user of what they "want" or show interest in.
Facebook does this because it has the app and messenger app that so many people get.
I personally hate the fb app, and apps in general because of push notifications. But i understand that the great majority of smart phone users actually prefer them, and this wagging the dog is what draws people to social media groups on fb and reddit as opposed to dated and non integrated old school web forums.
