HELLO EVERYONE, welcome to our stay-at-home grow out challenge! for the next 6 months or until October 1st, however you want to see it. We will be doing a SPS grow out challenge! This thread will be used to soley document growth on your specimen! I have included some rules down below to get us started. It is my first time so any mistakes I apologize!

One thing I do want to make clear is, please do not make any hate or any hurtful words on this topic! it is a fun way to pass the time. If it is successful we may end up doing it annually. Heck maybe even twice a year!

I have purchased everyone a 6" ruler to take measurements on, Please read THE RULES CAREFULLY ! as everyone knows SPS loves to grow slow. CHOOSE YOUR SPOT WISELY!

I know some of you will want to remove the frag plug, or mount onto your own frag plug, JUST MAKE SURE that whatever you do, once you post that "DAY ONE" photo. It cannot be altered.

If I have missed something please let me know ! @EyeReef @joseserrano if I posted in the wrong section feel free to move it ! thank you!

a special thanks to @Smite for bringing up a competition at these crazy times!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!SIDE POOL CONTEST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

prize pool : 20$, and a unknown frag, and a Brand slightly used Red Sea Refractormeter !
contest : BEST COLOR!

I know it is hard with photoshop and gel filtering, So in order for us to do this correctly, the spectrum of light when photo is taken must be daylight, or around 16K spectrum.

The rules will be the same, Some additional rules are followed :

. The photo cannot be in atinics or blue spectrum to make the coral POP.
. This side pool is only for coloration, so no measurements are needed. only "day one" photo that has the correct spectrum.
. winner for growth contest cannot win side pool contest.
. the day one photo must be posted 24hours once you picked up the coral
. photos will need to be posted monthly. Not doing so will result in disqualification for this side pool

With all that being said, you will be posting 2 "DAY ONE" photos
1. ruler behind coral for growth contest.
2. daylight or 16k spectrum for color contest

18 gallon frag tank with center overflow, 20 gallon sump with live rock platform to place coral onpowered by AquaKnight LED.
Display ank Light is a Kessil A360X set at 75% intensity 9 hours a day.
Tunze 9004 protein skimmer.
Dosing Seachem Kalkwasser through ATO reservoir.
Manually dosing ESV Magnesium.
Dosing Red Sea Colors ABCD.

Perform a water change maybe once a month.

Haven't tested parameters in over a month, but things seem to be alive and growing.

Not sure what type of salt is in my water, but I think it maybe Fritz. I buy my water from Golden State Corals in Reseda.

There's that new new, looking forward to seeing how this piece grows for you. I'm sure a few people will be running the g5s and it will be cool to see how they perform. Very nice tank

G5 is not all that since the released. Cracked lower housing and optical lens. Unfortunately I was one of the unlucky person. People having problem connecting to Mobius when having multiple fixtures. Plenty of people on R2R complaining about them.

I'm currently working long days so I'm going to use a semi recent picture of my system. I've since added more fish that I'm holding for a friend.

Tank info:
180 display 6x2x2
40g sump

Been running since 12/2018

Current Parameters:
Salinity a little low at 1.024 correcting to 1.026
Temp - 78F but has been hitting 80F. At 80.5 my halides turn off, I take temp stability over light
Alk: 8.3? ( I think been a minute since I read my salifert kit values lol 4.5 on the syringe)
Calcium: always high around 470-500ppm
Magnesium: 1350-1400
Nitrates: showed up as 2 on ICP, probably from MB7 dosing. It was around 25ppm before
Phosphates .2ppm - trying to lower this and getting algae now that nutrients are out of whack

Lighting:
72" Spectra - 3x250w radium (8 hrs) with 4 80w blue+ t5s (10 hrs)
*trying to decide on best supp actinic LED

Flow:
I aim for very random and strong flow. Gyres are 100% during day, mp40s are around 70%. Tunze stream3 is only on during day on a strong pulse across the rear pane.
gyre250/150 xf
mp40wqd x2
tunze stream 3
jebao wp25 or something similar

Filtration:
100 lbs +- live rock
Deltec 1660 skimmer 18hr/7 (-6 hours for daily MB7)
Chaeto refugium 24/7
Matrix media in reactor
Carbon reactor - polyplab media
no socks, dirty sump :)

Salt/Dosing:
Tropic Marin....swapped to IO but I'm going back
Irregular water changes, only when needed
Reef Moonshiner Program/ATI ICP testing (trace elements) along with his vitaminX
Calcium Reactor - Geo 6x18/TLF media/fed from Kameor peristaltic/SS regulator/ pH controlled by Apex
Reef BioFuel 13ml daily
I currently have around 30 fish and I feed heavy. 1/2 nori sheet daily, LRS/rods reef are my staples. Mysis/brine/cyclops i feed occasionally and soak in selcon
I've stop dosing aminos for a while now

System is controlled and monitored by apex classic

FTS from mid March:

Looking forward to growing out this piece. Nervous, some pieces just fail in my system aka red dragon. Zoas hate me too

Yeah I've been reading about that. Ecotech has stood behind products for me in the past, hopefully they take care of everybody in some way and get those issues resolved.
