Stomatella snails are the bizz! They eat the crap out of algae and they readily reproduce in aquaria. Though I've never seen them for sale. Right now I have a ~25 gallon tank that doesn't have a bit of algae in it and I've never added a snail. When I turn the lights out dozens of 1 to 2 cm stomatellas come out and feast.

I can understand if they are not sold in store because they are hard to catch in the wild or something, but I'm surprised they aren't bread or sold anywhere. If you can get a few to start a colony, I'd highly suggest it!

I just think they are highly underrated.
that is all.

I agree!!! Get 2 & they will reproduce in your tank & in a few months you will have many more!

I also love my colonista snails!!!! They are tiny so they can get into right spots, reproduce in the aquarium unlike most snails, don't knock frags off, & I never see them for sale anywhere!

I LOVE my stomatellas & colonistas!!!

I think mainly because they breed and die off based on food availability and competitors like other snails or asterinas etc. I used to have tons and now I don't see them very often although I'm sure some are still around. I used to be able to get 10 at a time out of my fuge and give them to people. They are cool and great detrivores though wish I had more.

i got a few for free also as a hitchhiker or something. they have reproduced like crazy in my tank and some are getting pretty big. my peppermit shrimp was eating one the other day but idk if it was already dead or preyed on.

they do a pretty good job eating algae but mine don't seem to have big appetites.
