Apogee my-510
Cheapo hydroponic 4 bulb t5 fixture
Only tested two center bulbs 48”
From the light to surface of water 11”
From light to par sensor 22”

Bulbs were also turned on for at least 15 mins prior to measuring par. Maybe not be as long as people would want but enough to get an idea and results.

Ati purple plus x2- 65 par
Ati blue plus x2- 74 par
Ati actinic x2- 54 par
Reefwave x2- 28 par

So I had a debate with a friend. Me being impatient I bought some “wavepoint” t5 bulbs from Amazon “reefwave” supposedly they’re actinic. While waiting for brs to deliver my bulbs. Anyways par was low and in my head maybe “actinic” since has sub 400nm maybe par meter doesn’t measure that and only measures visible light. Regardless the test I guess is inconclusive unless others can chime in with results/data. Want to know if actinic even tho it’s lower par levels but has higher peaks in lower levels can it affect corals more than say the traditional “par” measurements.

Regardless All I can saw is bulbs/brands matter. I’ve always used T5s back in the day and a die hard ati fan. But now being able to get back into t5 and actually owning a par meter it’s interesting to show some results

That's cool to see Par outputs for lamp types. Crazy difference in PAR considering ATI actinic lamps were near 2x as much as the Reefwave. I wonder how much the ATI reflectors vs those hydroponic would change the numbers? I need to do par measurements again over here. I was blown away with how high my numbers were and wrote it off as me not knowing how to use the meter correctly. I wonder now that maybe they were actually right.

If I get one over here again I'll mess around with different lamps in my 2 channel. I run a lot of different lamps in my 10x54w powermodule (old school one). I do feel actinic lamps bring a lot to the table for color even though PAR is not the strongest. Lots of florescence with them in the mix.

Too bad you’re not closer. Otherwise I would bring it the par meter as well. I came from a 10 bulb power module as well. Freaking crazy light. But wayyy too heavy imo lol I do miss the parabolic reflectors

No joke! Even after adding more ceiling support I trip on that hanging over my tank.
