So as a long time member of the reefing community I’ve tried to contribute, help others, share information, learn as much as I can, pay it forward and bank coral with trusted friends and reefers alike. I’m not usually one to ask for help, but if I’m able to, I often help others as much as I can. I’ve given away plenty of coral, snails, etc to those who’ve made the trek to my house, only to subject them to talking about the hobby for too long (I tend to go on if you let me), apologies to those who have endured my blabbering.
I know there are plenty of people out there like me, because we’ve traded/sold/bought corals with each other over the years. I’m a firm believer in the reefers code, share information, bank corals and help whenever you can. I’ve been fortunate enough to get back a few pieces that I’ve banked with friends, but there’s one piece that I lost last year that I haven’t tried to get back, until now. You may say that I can go get this piece in almost all the shops or online places at any time, but this is about getting this particular coral back (if it still exists?). This piece was my first acropora that I grew from a tiny brown frag when I started a tank after a 13 year hiatus. It’s a common piece, most call it a bonsai, tricolor, valida, secale, etc, but to me, it meant a lot, I spent nearly 10 years growing this through several battles and multiple bacterial issues, tank upgrades, but it managed to survive them all, until the last one.
So, for those of you who may have received this piece, either as a gift or if I sold it to you, I would be more than willing to buy a piece back. I believe it to be A. secale, but as I mentioned, commonly called a bonsai.
I don’t have too many pics, but I’ll share what I have. So if you remember getting this piece from me in the past 10 years, I would be extremely grateful to see it returned to my tank again, only to grow it out and share it with others. Thanks for taking the time and remember, the reefers code is only a thing if we keep it going.
John

Here’s the initial frag from Feb 2015.

Here it is in 2017 in the center of my 22g before I upgraded.

I dont have that exact piece but you're welcome to come over and "bank" some corals from me. I wouldn't mind you taking some par measurements again too!

I believe I have a huge colony of that but it was not doing well when the tank was unstable. I can try to snip some tiny frags to make a mini-colony for you…

Thanks! There’s no rush and appreciate the offers. I’m without a car until this weekend, so I’ll reach out as soon as I have transportation again.

Here you go! :) I’m lousy with iPhone pics though

I’ve had this for more than 10 years.

Cool piece, kinda more like valida/nana. I like the purple base color.

Hope you find it. I know exactly how you feel, getting back a piece of the exact lineage that came from you.
Exactly. I had an aculeus (the one on the bottom right of my 22g) and I lost that one to heavy metals. It’s a quite common species from Australia to indo, but the blue / green combo was nice. I managed to find a piece at Unique and grabbed a frag before they sold the colony. The only other one I lost that I would love to get back is a piece I got from Anthony Pham who passed way in May. It was this ultra nice magenta millie. I can’t remember if I ever fragged it? But lost it to a bacterial infection.

This pic doesn’t do it justice. I really miss that one too.

Same colony as it was in my other SPS tank. I moved it down here but the tank had some issues 6mos ago, now recovering.

Hey mods, maybe we can make this a stickie, that way anyone who lost a piece that they banked or sold to someone might be able to return the favor? Just a thought. And to those who’ve reached out, thank you!

Maybe it would be a good thread for people
To make a list of what they got. This can encourage trading and possibly help ppl source stuff and keep track of what they have. I’ve lost track of stuff in the past, decent place to reference

That coral looks like the Garf bonzi to me. Good luck on your search as that is an old school acro for sure
Hey Richard, yeah it's probably the same species most likely. I got it from a shop that no longer exists for $5 over 10 years ago that mostly had wild/maricultured pieces. Those nice bright green polyps stood out to me and it turned into a gem, but agree that it's an old school piece that every stickhead should have.
