Great gun laws in OR. Not to sure about WA though.
Looking forward to taking advantage of that too. Harvesting my own food is definitely high on my goals list.

ashley is going to be devastated when you guys leave. she's already pissed that i've gone to your place without her a few times.. >_>
Just think of it as a vacation home in OR that you guys will get to stay at. It's really not that far and there is some beautiful country to drive through once you get past Sacto.

my friend has had a hunting license for a bear (seriously, a f'n bear) because he's a bow hunter..

we laugh at him all the time, because the biggest thing he's managed to hunt with that bow, is a squirrel.. :P

Gotta start somewhere. I'm not much for hunting predators...carnivores tend to taste poor. But hogs, deer, sheep and elk are on the menu for sure. I also want to raise some chickens.

Bear is greasy and for me isn't good at all. Elk will be your ticket in OR, mule deer as well but I'm betting once you get a taste of the elk you'll be hooked. We've thought about doing the same many times. My wife grew up in Merlin which is right next to grants pass OR and would love to go back. Our entire family is here though. Still could happen though

Do it! Our family is in Grants Pass and some in Portland. Truth be told, if I could find work there I'd love to live alongside the Rogue River. Huge salmon & steelhead run that river.

You da man Omar! Oregon / Washington / Colorado are all beautiful places and if you enjoy an outdoor lifestyle, it would be hard to beat them.

I'd love it if you could school me up on some fly casting. It's be cool to wet some line together before I leave.

OR and WA are both nice. I have family there and visit. I have family that live in Vancouver WA. Vancouver is connected to Portland OR by a bridge. You can get the tax breaks, cheap quality houses and quiet peaceful life living in Vancouver WA, and can still go to Portland OR. Portland has good night life, great parks and scenery and some nice LFS. Honestly if I didn't have to stay down here for my son that is where I would be right now. Good luck to you Chad.

We have cousins that do the same thing. They pay no income taxes from living in WA and pay no sales tax for shopping in OR. If we can make it happen we will but I think the schools we're aiming for are in southern Portland area.

And they grow up tasting so good

The key difference I've noticed is that the really nice coral is mostly in people's tanks. It's not as easy to go out and splash cash at the LFS for the really nice stuff. But people I've "met" on the forum up there have some very nice coral...very nice. I think they do more online purchases than we do which makes sense but access to stuff isn't cut off.
