Let me start off by saying I’ve only been running a trident for about 6 months now. For most part it’s been a great tool. One thing that has drove me nuts is the cal and mag are way off from my red sea pro test kits.
So last Monday I sent in an ICP test and every time I send in an ICP test I test all my parameters with all my Red Sea pro test kits. I use the same water that I collected for the ICP. Then when the ICP results get back I compare the results against what I get with the Red Sea and trident. So here’s the tridents test Monday morning
Here’s what I got from the Red Sea test
Alk 9.2dKh
Cal 440ppm
Mag 1430ppm
Iron 0.05
Potassium 332ppm
Iodine 0.06
No3 Undetectable
Po4 0.08 (I will need to replace po4 & no3 sense they are out of date)
Here’s the ICP results
Cal 436ppm
Mag 1426ppm
I’ve always had an issue with this trident reading high on cal and low on mag. I’ve even used up all the calibration fluids that came with the 6month supply. I still have a full 2 month pack that hasn’t been messed with other then the calibration fluid.
So yesterday I decided to say eff it and calibrated the trident with my tank water. I did tests with alk, cal, and mag. Then I calibrated the trident with those number. It’s seems to be so much more accurate now.
Next Friday I’ll update this showing the results of the red seas test kits and trident results
