Even you buffered to the level you want but my corals were slowly STN. I think something wrong with the ingredient they put in there for making non sticky salt. Btw, my tank is recored now and I won't use any more the TMP. I thought we had only problem with TMP salt, now seem with the regular Tropic marine has had low Alk. I do not believe why you pay high end salt (money) to get a low quality.

I keep my alk and calcium low in my tank anyways (around 7dkh and 420 calcium). I push my calcium reactor pretty hard so I don't think it matters much what the salt mixture is at. The red sea im using has high alk around 12-13dkh but even after doing a 30-40% water change I don't see much of a difference in my tanks parameters.

But the whole TMP drama made me want to switch to a salt that is not man made and is solar evaporated from ocean water. At least with natural sea water salt I know the trace elements in it are in perfect ratio and I don't have to worry about a "bad batch". I hope lol

tony check for chloramines in your area....

I know my house filters water with chloramines and I need to use the special rodi filters.

only reason i say this is because your only like a mile from me

From the pics of your tank and frags we all know you know what you are doing. But this evaporated salt thing is a scam!

If you recall from inorganic college chemistry, when you evap sea water the concentration of the different ions go up. Different ions come together and precipitate out in a complex order of solubility. The final dry product is a complex mix different ionic salt precipitates. When you go to dissolve this powder in RODI water, some of the salts do not go back into solution. Thats why these "sea salts" still add trace minerals and adjust alk, ca, pH. I believe in the end, they are just as good of an approximation of the final product as fully "synthetic" sea salts like TMP.

For me I won't pay that much for the salt I must to buffer Cal, Alk, Mag to the correct level. With that price I can pay two bucks of Instant Ocean, I only buffer Cal, and Mag a little bit to the correct level.
cant argue with sucess!

failure leaves lotsa room for discussion...
