Using BRS Rox and high capacity gfo on the same reactor

Hello,
Thinking about using the BRS Rox carbon and high capacity GFO together on a single reactor. I know that carbon gets exhausted quicker so not sure if it makes sense to use regular BRS carbon and high capacity GFO or Rox carbon and regular GFO. Any thoughts?

Not a good idea. GFO needs a higher flow rate which will pulverize GAC.

Carbon needs a higher flow than gfo, this the gfo can be broke down and get into your system/pumps

Ok I know you guys will crucify me. I will share my experience. So I do run gfo and carbon in the same reactor. I load the gfo on the bottom and carbon on top. After loading the reactor I run about 3 gallons of ro/di through the reactor to rinse the dust out. I then hook up the reactor in the sump. The output of the reactor dumps into a sock. I run the flow of the reactor at where the carbon has a slight bubble effect at the top. The gfo doesn’t move much just some slight twitching. I’ve not had the gfo break up and find it’s way into the water where I can see it. If it is I would say the sock is collecting any gfo dust.
For the past 5 weeks my 150g has been skimmerless and I’ve been using a refuge and a single reactor filled with carbon/gfo for nutrient export. Here’s my icp test I sent out Thursday

Check out phosphorus 0.001 I’ve been over stripping my water. Also if the GFO was breaking down in the reactor wouldn’t the iron levels be elevated

So is “BIG REACTOR” telling use that we need to use these media’s in separate reactors. So we will spend more money on equipment. Also if anyone has ever opened up a bag of chemipure it has gfo,carbon , and what looks like di resin. Boom mic drop

No. They end up on your pump magnets or feed algae’s

I have no Nuisance algae in my tank I literally can go a month without cleaning the glass in my system. Granted I do pull out a 5 gallon bucket of cheato a month

I recently watch a BRS youtube video where they actually mixed the gfo and carbon together in the single reactor. So the gfo and carbon are combined not layered. They said that its better as long as the mix is packed and does not move. That way the gfo does not rub against the carbon. And the carbon mixed in does not causes the gfo to clump together...

Chiminpire isn’t Ran a reactor. We pay so much for the corals/livestock, and for the equipment in addition to the materials that go in them, yet rationalize $50 bucks and throwing money away by reducing the effectiveness of xyz

Show me any super nice corals in the brs Tank’s. Corals are decent sized, but do they look nice, not really. They have good info, but they rnt growing high end corals
