What do you guys think about Varios as return pump? I'm looking at Vectra, Varios, COR, etc. They all look very similar quality and price point.

I'm really leaning towards Varios because it is can hook up to the APEX directly.

Anyone got anything good/bad to say about Varios-6 or Varios-8 as a return pump? Or is another brand better just better than Varios? Can go baller like RD or Abyzz, that's a bit too much $ as I plan to buy 2 pumps.

Or just say screw all these DC pumps and go with AC? LOL.

I have been running a Varios for a little over a year and like it. Dead silent, easy to control via included controller or via a Neptune / GHL. I am using the 0-10V control through my GHL works like a charm and I can dial in flow from 1-100%. I went with the Varios 1) cause I found a great deal on a new one but 2) because it came with that float switch that can be rigged to the skimmer to kill the return pump in case of overflow but I’ve yet to even mess with that.

I think you hit the nail on the head though they all seem to be a decent piece of kit in that price range. Just comes down to picking your poison. If silence and the ability to really dial it in are important I’d say look for DC.

Have to agree with @BST320 on the Varios as I’ve been running that on my new build. Can be run stand-alone or controlled by a controller and very quiet.

I like the idea nowadays of running two smaller pumps for sump return rather just one large one. With that said, I believe for the flow you get the Varios line seems to be the smallest footprint. So it can fit even in tighter sump return spaces if you had to cram two in there.

Plus, the 0-10V control, might not need it now but if you ever expand to having that control, then the Varios is the lowest cost return pump I’ve seen with that input. Otherwise you gotta pay for a RD or Abyzz for that kind of external control.

EFlux comes close but their control is proprietary. Would be cool to know if there are other pumps out there in the mid-price range that has 0-10v

Just switched from AC pump to Varios6 in Dec and the noise difference is pretty noticeable. Considered the COR as well but had read comparisons saying the Varios was quieter. Also my protein skimmer runs a Varios so just decided to keep the brands consistent.

Had got a 0-10v cable as well but with the flow rate directly adjustable on the standalone controller, I haven't found the need yet to hook it up to my Apex.

I like the flow control adjustability since I run my return through a UV and can then adjust the flow rate to whether I'm trying to address algae control or parasites
