Just an FYI for everyone, the "free" booth has been passed up primarily because we had too short a notice to prepare. Friday was the sticky wicket, really, so we decided to pass.

HOWEVER, Richard from OCAquatic is inquiring about a booth (free or otherwise) and perhaps that will give us an opportunity to promote the hobby.

We'll work out the details, and if we need help, suggestions or anything else, we'll let you know...

Thanks all for the input!

Would be nice just to work one booth and help out as much as possible. It'll take a lot of man power to staff another booth. We have to discuss it.

I have been asked to communicate that this offer is open to ANY aquarium club organization who wishes to exhibit at the Pet Expo. For those who don't know, the Pet Expo at OCFEC takes over the ENTIRE fair grounds for the weekend of April 12-14. There are literally tens-of-thousands of attendees who attend this event each year!

SeaChem is a major sponsor of the aquatics section at the Pet Expo and have desperately been trying to get more involvement from our niche of a hobby, unsuccessfully thus far.. Since we are hosting six different clubs at Marine Aquarium Expo this April, they have asked that we help spread the word both at our event and anywhere else that club members may see the message (such as these forums) In fact, we have donated a MAX booth to the Pet Expo so that they may "rally the troops" so to speak and create more awareness... a win-win situation no matter how you look at it.

From what I understand, there are no stipulations as to what you do with the booth, as long as it is for club purposes. That being said, if any club wishes to participate in the Pet Expo the April, please PM or e-mail me and I'll refer you over to the right person.
Again, I can't emphasis enough how incredibly huge this event is! I've always considered them a benchmark in consumer-trade show activities here in California. Incidentily, this same organization (that does Pet Expo) also puts on the SuperZoo event, the next of which is early September in Vegas.

We were told that the cutoff for a club booth was the 7th. Since we couldn't find anyone to "commit" to that Friday by the deadline, we didn't feel it was appropriate for us to reserve a booth and cross our fingers that we'd be able to cover that Friday.

I'll shoot him and email and ask, as this doesn't jive with what my understanding was.

REGARDLESS, it IS an opportunity to spread the word about the hobby! If any clubs can find a way to do it, I would encourage you to do so!

I also have a list compiled of some of the different SoCal Marine Clubs - perhaps someone could get together a list of freshwater clubs to add to that?

The confusion about the cutoff date is my fault. The cutoff date of the 7th was to get into the show program and have the banner printed for the booth. Also with it getting closer to the date we wanted to make sure we had enough volunteers for Friday in order to commit to participation. Since we have had no volunteers for Friday it appears as though IEMAS will not be participating.

Ah, actually, yes, I think I recall that in conversation with you (about the literature cutoff being the 7th). My bad.

What's the cutoff for the reservation of a booth itself?

I have inquired about possibly getting a booth for our store but it is out of our budget. OC Aquatic is open to providing the livestock (freshwater/saltwater) and decorations to the club as well as my time for the entire friday. All we ask is that we can pass out coupons for our store inside the booth. I have already spoken to Dave at WPIA and he said it would be fine with it if the club is in favor of it.

So, whichever club decides to take the booth please get in contact with us as we are eager to participate. customerservice@ocaquatic.com

I like that Idea. What do you think about that Bruce? We both Benefit. I will post the offer over on IEAMS.us see what the club thinks.

Richard,
We reserved the booth. I dropped you an email yesterday. We are looking forward to working with you to make this a success for everyone involved. We should talk and get all of our ducks in a row within the next week.

Everyone,
We are still in need for a couple volunteers for Friday to help us setup and watch the booth.

Hi Rick, sounds great! Lets work together to make it a success for all. I'll be out of town until sunday. Why don't you coordinate with the club to see if we can get some more help and I'll coordinate with my partners on my end and we can talk on monday.

Richard

Yes,

"Tropical Aquarium Expo"

MAX and FAX both debut in 2008. Assuming both shows are successful, the two will be combined to create one huge multi-building event dubbed "TAX" in reference to both fresh and saltwater hobbies

merge to take place in 2009 or 2010 at the latest

Thanks all for the help getting things moving. Looks like we'll be able to figure things out and give the hobby a little bit more representation.

Somehow, I knew Kevin couldn't resist taking yet ANOTHER opportunity to promote his private event(s) in someone else's thread.

Some things just never change...

:hmmmm:
