I've had my IM 40G cube set up for many years now and I've always used 2 of the cheap Jebao wavemakers. They work fine but I want to upgrade to something that looks nicer in the tank. My research has led me to the Nero 3 or possibly the MP10. Do you guys have any other recommendations I might have missed? Any thoughts on which of these is better?

My tank info:
IM 40G, 24"x20"x19"
Lights: AI Prime 16x2
Corals: LPS and softies, rbtas (no SPS)
Fish: 2 Clowns and wrasse

Tunze 6040, hands down the best nano controllable pump out there. I have two that are still going strong 7 years later. You can control them via apex or hydros with their respective control cables.

Thanks for the input... I hadn't considered this pump before. How is the noise on these? Some reviews complained about a bit of a hum.

I’d agree with Stan mainly for the fact both pumps produce similar flow patterns and adjustability options.

Having used the Nero’s for a number of years now they’re great pumps and customer service is great too. I do find myself missing the adjustability and ability to point the flow directly at the surface that the Tunze 6055 or 6040 provide.

Thanks for the response. How big is your tank and how many Nero's do you have in there?

I just downsized to a 15 gallon and run a single Nero 3. But previously I had a Nero 3 and Nero 5 on a tank similarly sized to yours. Two Nero 3s would have been ideal, you could probably even get away with one depending on what coral you're keeping.

No hum from them at all. I have them pulsing 24/7 and the only thing I hear is them kicking in if I'm running them from a full stop, but I like to run them on a ramp cycle, so they never shut off completely during the ramp up/down. The cool thing about them, is with the flow director cap on, you can set them just below your rocks and they'll push up and over a little. Or you can remove the cap and turn it sideways and have them push along the glass. So there are a lot of flow options with them, not too many pumps can do that.
