After reading the reviews about the Carib sea it looks like it just makes dust storms in the tank. What do you guys use/recommend for sand for a reef tank. I’m starting new so I’m trying to avoid future troubles thanks for the input

tropic eden reefflakes are the go to. i went with the miniflakes (1mm smaller) and they do work but can get blown around pretty easily depending on where your powerhead is. some people mix different sizes together. tropic eden sizes:

Grain Sizes Available:

Aragasnow - 0.5mm

Tonga Special Pink - 0.8mm

Miniflakes - 2.0mm

Mesoflakes - 2.7mm

Reefflakes - 3.0mm

I use the Hawaiian black. Makes the coral color pop a bit more on the sand bed. And you dont see that nasty red algae when you get it.

I use the Figi pink. It’s a good mix of sizes. Looks nice and doesn’t blow around to bad if you get creative with your Powerhead placement. I think my next build will be bare bottom. You can blast the lower half of the tank with water movement and keep all the junk suspended so the filters can remove it. But I think sand looks nicer than no sand

I used HTH pool filter sand,https://www.acehardware.com/departm...pa-and-supplies/swimming-pool-equipment/83029, so cheap and after 6 months no problems. I checked for any contaminants or chemicals. It is clean but must be washed a few times. I used 100 lbs of this sand for under $25.00. After the first day it was clear and I've never had any unusual problems with it. I mean unusual in that I had diatom bloom, etc. that happens with most any sand for an aquarium that is new.
