One of the UV diode on my Hydra 26HD burned out. AI wanted me to send it in for repair but I have no spare. I used to have AI SOL BLUE with burned out diode after less than two years. AI sent me the puck to repair. I also saw, AI sold the puck replacement for Vega. I am not sure why AI does not sell puck for all models anymore. It looks like AI customer service is good for responding email but not selling parts for replacement. According to my opinion, their products are not reliable at all. What are your opinions?

The wifi on my girl's tank went out after 2 years. Have to turn it on manually which totally sucks. It actually went haywire and fried a green slimer, bleached half the heads on a frogspawn and almost nuked some zoas believe it or not. AI said send it in but no spare atm. Debating radion or a black box, lol.

Just to be fair. Any company who would take it and try and service the light, would not provide a spare. Including Ecotech. Regardless if it is or is not under warranty

I am not asking for spare loaner. At least, they will sell parts to customer to give a chance to fix an expensive light. Sending the light for repair is a good option if we have spare one, otherwise AI has to give us a chance to buy parts to fix our self, this will satisfy us as customers. If the parts do not fix the problem, then buying a new unit.

How old is your light ? Did you buy it used ? AI26HD has been around for few years already...... may be your light is couple years old. Send it in for repair.....they charge reasonable fee for their repair.

The hydra 26hd is around 3 years old. The LED must last around 50,000 hours. My Ai Sol Blue was less than two years old and got few burned out LED. My Vega is the best no issue since day one. Any LED should last around 10 years, especially it only runs less than 100%, 8-12 hours a day. I know how to repair it myself and I have all the tooling at work. It is bad UV LED. I prefer to get the puck replacement.

I don’t think many customers have the skills to fix a light. That being said, giving that option sounds like a bigger risk on their part if something goes wrong and the customer Blames them, which is more likely than not to happen.

Are the LEDs enclosed in a canopy or open?

AI lights are easy to take appart and replace parts... at least the sol and hydra 52s were. I converted 2 sols to hydra 52s with the kit AI used to sell. Do they not have a parts store on their site anymore? Haven't had AIs in a while but sofar between the hydras, radion g4 pro, and kessil's, the hydras have given me the best results. As far as reliability, the sol blues has some diodes go out after a few years. No issues with the Hydra 52s.

The Vegas were enclosed in the canopy and last till now with no issue. The Ai Sol Blue were in classic mount. The Hydra 26 HD are in enclose canopy. The heat can built in enclose canopy but I have extra fan. I work in electronics engineering company, if the company does not do strict quality control then ended up with low quality parts from overseas, most are from China.

Finally, I replaced the UV 400nm LED diode. It was a challenge to remove the old diode but fun to do it. Replaced the UV 400nm with Mouser Part # 743-IN-C39CTOU5 (I used this one), you can also use 743-INC39BTOU5. The old Ai Sol Blue was easier to replace the diode, I have done it before.
