Actually most do use Starphire type glass (Low Iron) and also use different type of lighting depending on the materials used for the display (Store front). I designed and help setup displays at major Dept Stores back in my high school days.
I remember helping to design a couple of stores for Disney and Macy's (architectural design). And some how was asked to help with the Store front Displays too.
Then I moved on to other things///
I've been doing graphic design professionally for the past 12yrs. Also been doing Video editing and Engineering at recording studios. Yup Jack of all trades.

But yeah man sometimes that lighting will play tricks on you.. Thats why I love store return policy's. lol

Your so right on about the colors being off on corals for sale. Also the size is way smaller in person. I have bought a lot corals from people on this site and from a big store in the valley(I'm not really complaining because i have saved a lot of money.

I sometimes wondered if people were selling me a frag from the frag i agreed to buy. Now i know better and really look at the pictured coral for sale.

And double check were they are located. No more 3 hour drives for any coral.

Same reason they enlarge cereal on the box or make the hamburgers perfect and huge in commercials. To sell product.

hahahaha//// I know right. I will have to quote BOB MARLEY on this one "You can fool the people sometime, but you cant fool all the people all the time. So now you see the light, you got to stand up for your rights". GET UP STAND UP!!
