I have emerald crabs in all my tanks even with my shrimps. They are fine. Emerald crabs are scavengers. They do not actively hunt living critters unless they are starving. That being said if they are over fed they aren't super good algae eaters either.

Females tend to be less aggressive, but a better alternative would be pitho crabs. I currently have about a dozen in my tank and they’re non stop algae eating monsters. They don’t bother anything, nor do they nip at corals or clams.

Do you have any advice on keeping pithos alive? I haven't had one last more than a week.

I have had this guy around for a couple years. As you can see he works out...LOL. we call him crabzilla. He is about 3" across when he spreads his pinchers. I had shrimp with him for over a year but moved them to my other tank. He doesn't bother any of the other critters. I dont see him often so he must have known we were talking about him.

I have both and they are doing fine and they don't bother any of my corals as far as I know. And yes, I have one of the crabzilla too. It has been in my tank at least 9 months or more. I even have a pinkish emerald crab and it behaves just like the other two, just chilling and eat bubble algae if any emerging.

I bought some pithos a while ago and they didn't last long, my guess is poor conditioning at the wholesaler? I put about 14 in my display about a month ago and they're still munching away. I tried a different acclimation this time around and it seemed to work better. With inverts, I like longer acclimation generally and have always been successful, but with these guys I went shorter.

May be pretty soon. My two emerald crabs died (one probably a homicide, the other the grinding wheel of time). Now there's bubble algae on the rise...

Anyone else interested in a sooner-rather-than-later group buy, tag me and I'll get the ball rolling!

Count me in for a sooner than later. Like 2 weekish?

We can make that happen. The bubble algae is staring right at me. If there's one thing I hate, it's bubble algae... and Aiptasia... and GHA... dinos... ugh, clove polyps... actually I'm a very hateful person when it comes to microalgaes and pests.

Started an order. I tentatively placed arrival as Wedn the 7th, but asked John in the comments to extend it to Wednesday the 14th. I'll make a separate post to get the group buy started!
