I have some silver xenia that grows like crazy too, when it splits I lean a frag up against the one I dont want, when it attaches, I snip it off the original rock and put the new frag in another tank or sell it..

Also, I noticed my frilly shrooms will overtake the xenia and effectively kill it. They grow like weeds too and can become a problem as well. I had a frag with 3 small shrooms grow into a colony and take over a 6 x 12 inch rock (about 12 shrooms) in just 3 months.

To control them I point a jet at them with a small frag behind them, when they move onto the frag to get away from the current they dont like I remove the frag,, Or I just cut them off and frag them too...

Hope this helps...

I'd love to take some off your hands =)
I don't really have anything to offer in return other than some large mushrooms I can frag.

I've had a silver strand xenia problem in the past which kept spreading everywhere so I took out the rock and scrubbed it off with a steal brush. When they actually get going in your tank they'll over take the rock it's and just keep on spreading. Although, I do have the same xenia now and it doesn't want to seem to spread which is works perfectly fine with me.

You have tt o get rid of the whole piece and even yje rock some times because if you leave a speck on it it will just grow right back.

You guys are lucky that your xenia spread . . hehe .. Mine never spread/split/grow or anything. I'm happy that they are still alive after 5 months and not melted like the previous one I had :D

Yeah, forgot to mention that I pretty much just gave it all away after I fragged them off the rock. Even when I thought I scrubbed it all off the rock it still grew out a bit.

Darn thing has a horrible smell to it too!

i have been selling off to my lfs like hot cakes and getting a pretty good price for it. if you guys would like some frags i would be happy to trade you for some other frags or even cured live rock to replace what i have taken out. most my problem is that is on rock that i can not remove from my tank and when i do cut it, it just grows back on what little is left over.
