Hello fellow reefers,
As most of you may have heard this week Hawaii has indefinitely suspended the collection of certain fish.
I have been looking for a small yellow tank for some time for my new tank and when I heard that news I decided to make it my priority to find one as I'm sure the cost of yellow tangs will skyrocket.
I'm in Orange county and after going to a few local fish stores and I will not mention names prices have already gone up to around $100 and one of the well known largers stores told me they would not sell them as soon they will be getting upwards of $200.

My final stop was at Seaside Tropical in Huntington Beach.
To my surprise he had maybe five or six dozen yellow tangs from around 2.25 inches upwards from $58.99

So for those of you who may be looking for a yellow tang this is a heads up that Seaside tropical does have them at a very reasonable price.

Happy reefing

It was only 2 yes ago Hawaii closed off again and yellow went from $20-$25 in LFS to three times that. And then back down.

I’m sure if we miss out on a yellow now, there’ll be another chance soon at reasonable prices.

They don't QT. You should observe the fishes behavior for awhile if you have the time. With any luck perhaps you can spot suspicious behavior.

All those fish in sharing the system and with fish turnover like crazy, it'd be wishful thinking to think their systems aren't carrying any diseases.

I was there today, he raised the prices a tad. Yellows start at $85 and he's got a lot. $85 is still less than anywhere else with that much inventory.

When you're picking one out, look at the belly. If it's pinched, move onto another one. That's usually the main thing we look for and have really good success. They're $70 for good size ones at the wholesale... $85 is a good deal at the LFS if you can get it, at least while the prices are inflated.
