Well....filter socks aren't for silencing. What kind of overflow piping do you have leaving the tank? Durso, etc? Gate or ball valves help throttle the drain flow so it's not gushing into the sump. The piping should be low in the sump to aid in siphoning...hope that helps. ..kind of need more info

Yes! Here's my 60g Cube pre-cyano about a month ago!

Give me a couple weeks to clear this cyano problem on my sand bed, then sure no problem!

Off to a good start! I'm in Palmdale (Ana Verde). Once you're up and running and cycled, I can hook you up with some frags.
