So I work in an Additive Manufacturing facility, aka we do 3d printing with powdered metals (selective laser sintering) I have a tank at home and have been in industry for 7 years with no home issues (ultra careful and not in facility) , but company is interested in setting up a tank (fresh or salt) to show just how clean our facility is... we use powered titanium, aluminum, COPPER, in our production runs, along with many MANY other aerospace related materials that are bad for tanks (which requires respirator use) and can't be mentioned. Will be constant airborne possible contaminants as metallic and ceramic dust is mediated best possible with current established workplace regulations, but present always. was thinking maybe a 2.5g minnow tank to test area? or with feeders?

Inputs?

Serious reply's, as company will drop $$$ to show how clean shop is to customers (and we take pride in it, but tank would be ultimate proof). A$$hats need not post, my fish tank is older than most of you, and I won't do to harm any animals for testing the facility, just looking for very educated thoughts...

thinking of setting up a tiny say 2g FW (water only) something, running for a week, take a water sample for testing, following week a sample, ect for a month, doing only topoffs with my zero tds rodi FW (from home) and seeing if metals show up?

Sampling water should work. Only issue I see with using fresh water fish or plants is I don't believe heavy metals would affect them like with coral. Look at the farm raised salmon and tilapia, lol. I'm curious to see if airborne contaminants get into the water column so I'll follow along.

FWIW I worked on a house 20 years ago with a high end tank. It was maintained by the premier shop in Chicago-Old Town Aquarium. Long story short the tank was subjected to all kinds of drywall, paint fumes and other airborne contaminants (by other trades). Drywall dust has all kinds of heavy metals and silica. I was surprised nothing died but Old Town did a massive water change if I remember correctly.
