I think it is a few factors...the hobby has gotten prohibitively more expensive and huge inflation to everything. So people have to decide where they want to spend their money.

Also, people have less time now to take care of their tank. They have to go back to work, work more hours or travel for work. Naturally, the tank suffers and it requires even more time to fix it, which you don't have. It's a feedback loop until you just decide to leave the hobby.

The learning curve got a lot steeper. Today, there is information overload. If you are a newbie, you don't know what is BS and what works. There are simply too many options right now for everything. Back in the days, you got 1 brand of salt, Instant Ocean. You used the swing arm salinity checker. The only rock option is live rocks. Basic controllers with pH and temp only. Lights were either MH or T5/CF. The dosers were your hands. LOL.
Crazy how simple things were and still we ran very successful reefs. It just goes to show how many of the things available today are uneccessary and make this hobby seem so difficult to the new hobbiest. When people ask me about getting started I always tell them that all they really need is a tank, an HOB filter, heater, some decent lights and some live rock. Also try and pickit up used. This is the truth of it regaurdless of what the large retailers try and push. The hobby has largly changed towards profits over pleasure.

Hope this tank finds a good home with a happy reefer soon. Sorry to hijack the listing...at least we are keeping it at the top...GLWS

Ok - I’ll bite and take the whole setup. Please deliver to my residence. Also, don’t forget the $800 - I only take cash! :)

Sounds about right. I would love this tank, but it's just not in the cards. Would need a whole new set of lights (mine are best for a narrower tank), some other new equipment, and TIME to set it up. I want to get a bigger tank, but looks like it'll be a while before that happens :(

OP, like others say, it's a good price, so someone will be along!

That's the hobby for you. Buying dry goods is mad expensive but when selling used it's worth sh*t. This is practically a give away deal.

Agreed, it's awesome. But the factor for buyers is "do I have enough $$$ to set up a new tank right NOW?" If I wasn't under marital audit, I'd probably buy it and just keep the tank till I was ready to get new lights, pumps, powerheads, rocks, etc, etc. :~)

you can't have a second mid life crisis.. or can you?
I believe it’s unlimited? 😂 as long as your still “mid life”

mid life as defined by me: time period between birth and death- so yes- tank is ready for you 😂🤣

The tank is still available.
If the price is bad for you, i’m open to offers.
it’s a sweet tank, if anyone wanted to come take a look in person before making any offers, I’m ok with that. I think it shows way better in person than in photos, I’m in west hawthorne. Just if 405 and rosecrans exit.
Open to possible trade as well -
I’ll be keeping soft and easy corals going forwar
And Unique fish
Or legal pew pews and/or ammo.
or?
Looking for 6’ t5?
Trade for lights

I’m totally open to ideas or suggestions regarding trades or partial trades etc.

More I just need ti get it out of the space sooner then later lol.

that’s what it seems lol. This thing was $14k when new for tank stand sump plumbing and delivery. And I can’t even sell it for $800 🤣.
I got it from a friend in Huntington Beach, and thought I got a good deal but I probably over paid as well 😬.

I’m open to offers, but it is a sweet tank.
That's crazy, 14k for a smaller tank is nuts hahahaha.
