    Fish only tank onwners?

How do you people combat algae? I'm fairly certain that after my move, I will be going the fish only route. With the increased bioload of a fish only tank, I want to make sure algae is kept in check. I'm thinking GFO will be an expensive route so am leaning towards (gasp) biopellets.:a45...

Increasing flow on a 1" durso???

My tank has one 1" drain durso style and one 3/4" return. Here lies my problem: I have to have my return pump turned down extremely low in order to keep the gurgling sound to a minimum. I would guess my pump is only pushing about 150-200 gallons per hour. Other than drilling a larger or more...

How do you keep your interest up?

I'm sure I'm not the only one in this boat, so how do you all keep your reef keeping fire going? Wife won't let me spend any more money on gear. As for my tank, everything is in perfect balance so I' dont want to add another fish or coral as it may screw with the chemistry.

    Torch turned into stinging monster?

Whats the deal with a torch coral that has its stingers out all the time. Over the last month my torch is one pissed off mofo:evil: I have moved it around to give it plenty of room but it still has a dozen tentacles out that reach out about 5-6" and is causing some minor damage to my other...

    Harlequin shrimp and Asterina Stars

Has anyone had success using Harlequin Shrimp to mow down a population of Asterina Starfish. I noticed they were on a comeback in my tank as the coralline algae has increased. Will the Harlequins actively hunt the starfish down?

Running a little bit of biopellets??

I would like to try my hand at biopellets.....and yes I've read all the disaster stories related to its use. My question is will running just a small amount of biopellets work? Instead of using the full recommended amount, lets say I decide to use a tiny amount in the hopes of leaving some small...

    Chaeto death cycle

So my chaeto seems to go through a death cycle ever month or so. Its being rotated around and trimmed, however every month or two, I have a large portion of it die off and after removing the dead portion, it seems to grow back. Is this normal or is something wrong with the water chemistry?

    Changing salts often... good/bad?

It seems most people here try to stick to one type of salt brand. Is it a bad idea to change salts on a frequent basis? I usually just buy whatevers on sale and use it til it runs out then off to the next sale. Sometimes its a different brand but I just figured salt is salt, and regular water...

    Tumbling GFO?

This weekend I installed my Phosban 150 with BRS HC GFO. Install was a snap and I'm actually fairly pleased with the simplicity and small profile of the reactor. However, it seems the GFO is not tumbling throughout the entire media. Most of the tumbling seems to occur on one area of the reactor...
