No offence but if you get ick every once in a while (depending on how long that is) I would say you have a bit too much stress in your tank, especially for clowns to get it. I sounds like it got a small cut, but because of the stress it had trouble healing and got infected.

Yeah, an hour is way to fast for that much of a change in sg. I would say a minimum of one week for that change.

I would say for something practical a 400 watt halide. If you were willing to put in more you could do a plasma. Rumor has it that AI is working on a practical plasma system for aquariums.

I think the CAD one looks pretty good. The only complant I have heard about it is that the LED color is very yellow, like 6,500k. So you might want to add a blue LED or two.

I never dosed any chemicals in my tank. AZ-NO3 killed every last one of my corals when I tried it years ago.
