Agreed, the inverted bottle top trap has worked well for me many times. I've also done one hinged without inverting the top using fishing line to close the trap after the fish entered. Even my tough to catch target mandarin was caught by it using live brine. :top:

I'm with most. I find Alk to be the key and test that frequently, the rest not so much Alk 2x weekly Ca, SG, Mag 2x monthly temp and pH read on the ACjr. don't test for nitrates, phosphates

.....also, the really collect the junk, like detritus magnets. Then it doesn't matter what bacteria is going on, your essentially filtering through nitrates.

definitely a good thing to run on a QT setup or if you absolutely can't QT sick fish. It shouldn't be too detrimental to your bacteria as they are colonizing your rock, not really your water colum, but as stated, you don't really know what you're killing.....ANYTHING that goes through it pretty...

IMO bio balls are nothing but nitrate factories. I find that LR rubble works much better if you want to fill those chambers with something. ;)
