I run a chiller. The chiller adds very little if any warmth to the room. I don't use my AC that often. Running the AC all the time is much more money. The past 2 days though I ran my AC just because it was so hot in LA that I had too.

I'd go with the single 250 watt halide. Its not much heat at all plus awesome color and great growth.

Nice. I am looking to set up a new tank and going to use metal halides. If I come down Thursday afternoon can you light them so I get an idea of the foot print of two 250 watt?

Seaside and Tongs. I have been happy with both of those stores for fish. Strictly Fish in Lakewood as well.

Metal halides work best for me for SPS. Hamilton Bimini light or Cayman Sun would be a good choice for that size tank - 250 watt 20K

Just curious but many LFS have closed in the past year or so and the stores who are open say their business is very slow. Also not many new openings unless I missed it. Recent closures: Jim's Exotic Fish (El Segundo) Pacific Reef (Torrance) Neptunes Reef (Torrance) Medusa (west LA)...

Wow - that's a lot of disco effect. If you can add T5s it should take care of that.

What dual T5s did you get?

I've been there several times. I like it. It has gotten better since they remodeled the store a few years ago. Its a good LFS.

check on Craigs list as well. You can find a lot of useful items there for cheap.

If you want to do SPS, go metal halide. Best choice IMO. Best growth I've ever gotten for SPS is under halides.
