Sampling water should work. Only issue I see with using fresh water fish or plants is I don't believe heavy metals would affect them like with coral. Look at the farm raised salmon and tilapia, lol. I'm curious to see if airborne contaminants get into the water column so I'll follow along...

those suckers are fast. I had one about a foot long. Ate half of a huge toadstool, my entire clean up crew and yellow polyps and stuff I can't remember. I caught it with shrimp in a 2 liter. Put it in a 10 gallon. Terrified my kids friends for several years, lol.
