That Hawkins is incredible, still one of my favorite pieces. Tank is looking happy, well done.
It really is a nice coral. The tank is really settling dow as of late. All my high end to used-to-be high end corals are starting to branch out. Including my nub of cherry blossom. It’s almost grown to the size I would consider it a frag LOL

I’m replacing all my 6105’s with brand new ones today. I had bought them all used and have been maintaining them over the years with new parts but a few months ago one of the motor blocks went out and then one of the clips started slipping and I just said eff-it I’ll save up the cash and just buy new ones and not have to do the periodic replacement of parts for a few years.

While looking at them last week, I found 4 fish in my overflow

Green target mandarin (been MIA 8 months)
Bicolor Benny (MIA 6 months)
Purple fire fish (MIA 2 months)
Diamondback goby (MIA 1+ month)

I lowered the water level and netted them out.

Now that the fish are out, it’s time to replace the pumps.

I should check my overflow. I have some MIA fish as well.

Looking good Steve need to step up his game. He is asking for the orphek led

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I’m trying to get Steve to look at giesemann aurora, I’m even considering one myself...semi-seriously but Richard has the hookup on those and will help me with the setup. It’s really the best looking hanging fixture out there for those of us who don’t run canopy’s

Yes, it's a nanoreef. Anything under a million gallons is a nanoreef.

I have been keeping fish since the late 70's. I remember taking my allowance and riding my bicycle miles each way to the fish store and back, carefully wrapping the top of the bag containing my new fish around the right handle grip for the trip to it's new home in a 10 gallon glass tank with under-gravel filter and air-pump powered lift tube.

In 1992, I had a smoking fast 80386 with math co-possessor, Duran Duran was one of my favorite bands and I had a 20 gallon hexagon reef with PC lights and a wooden air-stone powered protein skimmer and I was hooked!

I have had successes and failures but have pretty much always had a tank until the birth of our 2nd son who is now 8. Almost 2 years ago I started again with a 29 biocube progressed to a 135 peninsula which is about to be replaced with this new tank.

It's a Leemar 72" X 24" tall X 30" wide peninsula. Starfire on the long sides I picked it up used about a month ago. In order to save several inches in our foyer, where the tank will sit, I am replacing the ghost overflow with an internal coast to coast overflow.

After frantically consulting with numerous other seasoned reefers I settled on building a steel stand. It's terribly overbuilt because I am afraid of things I don't really understand and structural engineering is one of those things. A few weeks back I bought the raw materials from IMS. #11 2" X 3" tube for the top of the stand #11 2" X 2" for everything else. If I could offer any advice to anyone interested in building their own steel stand, it would be to buy your steel cut to length from a supplier that has nice 20' band-saws. having the steel cut to dead-nuts length and dead-nuts square makes setup, which is a very critical part of welding, much easier.

Even though the cuts were all made, metal prep is important. de-greasing the metal, deburing the insides and beveling the edges make a good fillet joint easier. Don't forget coffee!

Progress photo. I spent about 1 hr setting up the stand top, making sure it was exactly flat and square and true.

Stand is actually upside down in this photo. Those braces are supports for the plywood bottom which will be recessed and sealed with a 3/4" steel lip all the way around to catch minor spills before they get to my floor.

And here it is in my garage after powder coating with the AA PVC sump system just waiting for some friends to come over Friday to set the tank on top so I can start setting up the plumbing. The gussets are recessed 120/1000" to accommodate for the magnets to hold the skins on. Leveling feet are 1/2" SS with 2" plastic pads rated for 3500 pounds each.

Is there a 914 in the background?! I used to have a 1970 914 that I put an EJ20 subaru turbo motor into it.

That's not my 914-6 in that photo......but the sandcar with 2475cc NOS and duel 44's in the other photo is mine. I'll take some photos shortly.

I've been kinda sad about my tank lately click at your own peril I accidentally OD'd NoPox and suffocated all my bigger fish about a month ago, almost to the day.

Yesterday I got a 3-year-old PBT and a smaller Vlamingi. The Vlamingi in that photo was about 13" this one is about 6"

Oh that photo was brutal.... sorry to hear about that. I was heart broken when I moved up here and lost my scopas, flame hawk, and a few others that were about 6 years old. Well, you did find some cool fish to add to the mix though so thats good!

There was a Scopas (over 3 years) 3 yellow tangs and my vlamingi.

The yellow tang that survived was alone in the tank for a month and doesn't want to share.... he'll settle down.

I've always wanted a PB tank, that one looks super healthy! They were always carrying ich and got super stressed in tank transfer so it was hard to keep them happy without infecting others. I am really happy with my Tomini tang, we have the magnificent foxface now and its the biggest fish but also the biggest scaredy cat in the tank. Are you going to stop there or are you still shopping around for more fish? Maybe get one of those cool peppermint angels :)

I was just discussing with my wife that those 3 tangs are a real nice fit for the tank. I don't think I'm goign to press my luck. the Vlamingi and BPT seem to pal around. The yellow was jockeying for pecking order but he's backing off. PBT was picking algae off the rock within about 1/2 hr of pop-n-drop.

Schnitzel had that PBT for 3 years.... so I have my fingers crossed.

My 3 big fish are all getting along well. No sparing or flaring for the most part. The yello survived my stupidity. I bought the PBT (3 years old) from nick and he was kind enough to include the vlamingi. It’s rather amazing, this new vlamingi is only 6-7” but has the exact same personality as the last vlamingi. I’t uncanny and reminds me of him.

I’m cleaning up overgrown coral today. I’ll be giving out free frags (I don’t know how many) at the end of the day. Located in corona, I’ll leave them out in the front of my house. Send me a PM and if you want softies or SPS, depending on how much I come up with I’ll PM you with no contact pickup instructions. Free orders will be fulfilled in order I was PMed
