Hello, fairly new to the hobby. Currently, my 100G tank parameters are..
Alk 7.6 dkh
Nitrates 5
Phosphate .14
Calcium 439
PH 7.8

Currently, not dosing anything to my tank. However, I am running GFO and bio pellets.
Looking to increase my Alk, Calc, and PH by adding kalkwasser to my system. Plan is to add a kalk reactor to my ATO system. My tank is currently going through 5 gal of RODi water every 6 days. Been reading about the benefits of mixing white vinegar to kalkwasser in the ATO reservior. However, I planned on using a kalkwasser reactor so not sure if adding vinegar is needed. If so, should I add vinegar in my ATO reservior or directly to my reactor? Also, what is the recommended kalk to vinegar ratio? I am planning on starting with maybe 1 a teaspon of kalk per reservior gal, which is a total of 5 tsp, to slowly start off..Any advise would be appreciated...thanks

My advice would be to adjust your parameters to where you want them and use kalkwasser to maintain your tank. I try to keep my ph at 8.3ish but no higher than 8.5. Vinegar in kalk will reduce the ph of the top off water minimizing the impact on your tank so I don't do it. In your case, imho, your ph and alk are low, calcium is okay. With these parameters I would raise the alk with baking soda/additive, raise calcium slightly and then begin dosing kalkwasser.

doesn't adding vinegar make the kalk more potent? i think people do that when they max out their kalk and adding vinegar allows them to dose a bit more

Hello. I thought adding kalk is the best way to increase calc and alk... Iam currently using soda ash in my ATO reservior to raise alk. I read that kalk is a much better way to do this. My plan is to use kalk to increase as well as maintain my parameters. Are my asumptions incorrect? Thanks
