It was great seeing your system(s) in person yesterday, very nice indeed! The angels stole the show and everything looked great! Fans are very effective with keeping things cool.

Thanks for stopping by and talked reefing. I hope to address the issue with this tank to grow SPS again. It’s been frustrating to say the least. ICP will go out tomorrow so will be interesting to see where we’re at.

Speaking of fish - I’m on a mission to get a medium-sized Queen and maybe a harem of clowns/damsels for the tank to fill the void. Stay tuned…

I’ll try this method for awhile to see and might plumb it back to the Avast Mutiny unit since I already own it. The Mutiny is supposed to be more efficient (better contact time) than the skimmer. I just hate cleaning it! lol
Update - since I’ve cleaned both the skimmer and Ozone reactor, I’ve plumbed the ozone back to its reactor, safer and uhm I already have it!

I bought (5) XR30 G6 Blues during the holiday break last year but haven’t gotten the manpower and motivation to install them. I’ve powered them up and upgraded the firmware though. The toughest part was going to get some 8020 for a clean look but never got to it. Looks like the path of least resistance is to just hang them inside the canopy. I’ll try to remove half of the Orpheks and do one side to see. Will let you know how things go….

What's so hard about the 80/20?
3D print the brackets for the XR30s is the easy part. However, ordering the right 8020 parts and drill into the 2x2 beams is daunting!$$&@. Not sure about you guys but there are a kazillion of options/parts!!!

I want to do it — cleanest but it’s abysmal. Maybe you can help me?

It's the least I could do for you. DM me some pics with measurements and tell me what it is you want to do. Then I'll get exorbitantly fancy and expensive and you can dial it down a bit.:giggle:
gracias - will do. TIA

zip ties... remember laziness is the mother of innovation :ROFLMAO:
I believe it's the father of innovation but I'm sure mother wants all the credits? lol

I’m still struggling to knock down nitrate with carbon dosing at 30mL/day. Too much and I got Cyano and nasty film, too little and nitrate would climb. Yea, I’m doing wet skimming to get the gunk out.

Will keep at it for another 2 weeks but might get the sulfur denitrator back online since it will definitely work.

I forgot to ask, but do you have any genesis blocks in the sump? If not, pick up their 4 pack with holder and put it in a low flow area of the sump. It will slowly bring down NO3.

Sorry, I don't but it might be too slow? I have a lot of rocks inside the DT already but with 30+ fish and heavy feeding, nitrate is not budging. My other 2 smaller tanks are carbon dosing with much success (NO3 < 15ppm and steady) but I have yet to get this tank down to 10ppm. I think that my problem is PO4 limited. Carbon Dosing will feed bacteria to break down NO3 & PO4. However, mine kept stalling since PO4 is depleted first; so I kept dosing NeoPhos to compensate. I'm currently dosing 50mL/day of NeoPhos -- ugh!

Anyway, I've just ordered 12lbs of sulfur from Geo's Reef (I only need 2lbs though) so will restart my sulfur reactor soon. It dropped NO3 from 100ppm+ before so I'm confident it will work again. Once dialed in -- it's super simple to control & maintain.

The downsides of sulfur denitrators?
1. Can release hydrogen sulfide (H2S) - rotten egg smell if no flow at ~ -300mV. Effluent will be controlled via a Kamoer and I have an ORP probe inside the reactor. I've found the sweet spot to be between -100mV and -200mV.
2. Takes 3-4 weeks for bacteria to colonize inside the reactor
3. Consumes 5-10% alk. It's easy to counter -- just add a little more soda ash. My alk is ~8.3dKH, dosing 75mL/day so going to ~85mL/day should be fine.

Wish me luck... lol

Another consideration why I don't these bio bricks -- it's hard to control. That is -- I'm not sure if I need 2 or 4 bricks vs granular control like carbon dosing/sulfur denitrification.

The Trident on the 150gal kept running for hours. I took it apart and discovered that one of the servos was bad. It was an easy swap so finally can keep an eye on the params vs doing it manually every weekend.

It’s a proven fact that I’m an idiot. Here I am trying to get rid of Tungsten but have you looked at commodities lately? Given the crisis in the Middle East, the price of Tungsten has doubled. I should just harvest more Tungsten to fund my hobby? ;)

Anyway, some of the SPS are showing signs of recovery. I'm going to wait until next month to send in ICP -- so far, params have been super stable: Alk is 8.3dKH, N is 30ppm, and P is 0.07ppm. I'm still trying to get N to come down but feel that keeping P stable is more important...

Our oceans have 20 million pounds of gold. Some reef geek is gonna figure out how to extract it. If its you brother, please adopt me!
