Unfortunately Steve aka reefusaca flaked on me pretty badly today. He called the shop in the morning and told me to hold some fish for him because he was "on his way" and then promptly never showed up. No calls and no contact until 5:30pm (said he'd be there at 1pm) with a pm that just said "please cancel it". All the while I had the phone ringing all day for these and had to tell everyone that they were sold, and some people even stopped by to see them but couldn't buy them because they were on hold, thanks again Steve.

My thoughts exactly.
With the one-liner pm I doubt that it was a miscommunication, he flaked, which ended up hurting me and a lot of people that were waiting on the same fish, uncool. I even had a guy that wanted to wait until closing to see if Steve would show up since I didn't want to sell them and have him show up late, but I didn't want him to sit around for an hour since I still expected it to not be a no show...
I don't really do deposits since flakes are rare, I figure that if I have to do deposits I've lost so much faith in people that I need to just take down my tanks and call it a day

Dont get rid of the Tanks, thats a bad decision, we are loosing people left and right

That's too bad Miguel. After my last experience w/ my lighting setup. I'm thru w/ dibs or holding anything for anybody, unless I personally know you. It really sucks when people lead you on, only to come up w/ some lame a$$ excuse at the last minute. Worse is when you see them buying other equipment a week or so later......
I'm pretty trusting. Although, I do ask for ~1/2 payment in advance now if I'm going to be buying something for someone...
I had an experience once where a person asked me to pick up about $140 worth of corals for them from one of my LA runs -all SPS. I told the person in-advance that my holding system was not setup to keep SPS alive and I wouldn't be able to hold them for him --he stated that he'd have no problem picking up that evening once I got back from LA. I bought his stuff in LA, and en-route back home I gave him a phone call and we confirmed a p/u time for that evening. The pre-determined time came and went...no show. About 2.5 hours after that time, I finally managed to get a hold of him on the phone. And where was he? Out on a 2-day fishing boat trip. Bastard. All the corals I bought for him died. THEN.... two or three months later, he asked to place another order with me for one of my LA-runs...being the nice, forgiving guy I am, I said sure why not. Once again, he no-showed on me. When I finally got a hold of him a day or so later, what was his excuse? He had stopped at a bar few hours before coming to p/u his order and had gotten too drunk to come over. LAME. Needless to say, I haven't done any business with him since.

Oh no wait, it gets better, he decided that a hang-up call is appropriate at 11:48pm on a Sunday night after he read this thread. Real stand-up guy you are Steve with such a mature, direct way of dealing with things. I don't know what part of this guy thought that it was not only appropriate to flake but to also call in the middle of the night because he's pissed that I pointed it out, but it certainly takes a special class of "I know I messed up but have no sense of personal accountability" person to do that, thanks again dude, really classy.
