Hey guys and gals. I've been using this salt since I started the tank back up in January (per a very good friend that everybody here knows)

So we all know about the crazy smells and sounds that it makes while mixing...
I've had some crazy things going on with this salt.

To start, I've found that my salinity rises, a lot between water changes. I've never seen anything like this before. I mix the salt for days or weeks before I use it and I do about 8-10 gal WC every 10-14 days or so. (120gal main tank)

Please don't ask about salinity meters, refractometes or swing arms. That's not the problem.

Has anybody else experienced this problem with this salt?

FWIW, I switched back to Tropic Marin.

Nope never had that issue while using this salt, maybe the issue of your salinity rising is because your mixing so long and you mixing container is evaporating o r maybe your dosing two part

I haven’t had that issue yet. Been using it on my 75 since set up. Did quite a bit of water changes battling algae too.

I had used Brightwell before the only things that I noticed while mixing are the water getting warm from the chemical reaction of the salt and the slightly yellow residue left on the mixing container. I had followed per Brightwell and still the same result with the residue left behind. Doing water change with water temperature above 85 was a challenge during the hot days throughout the year.

Thanks guys...

It's some crazy stuff. I like to run my SG around 1.025-26 but it seems every time I check my makeup water and tank water I find that the tank water has gone up a lot.

Yeah Tom, we've seen the Ca 2 part do this but not salt mix.

How high is your tank getting?
It's really not a big concern. I've seen it go from 1.026 to 1.028. In 14 days. You'd think with dumping the skimmer cup and acclimating fish and inverts it would go a little lower.
The salinity is just one thing. I have huge calcium build up on the tank walls. It's so bad that I spend hrs trying to scrap the front glass.

So that salt is gone. Its Tropic Marin from now on.

Probably a stupid question, but what are you topping your tank off with? Do you have an ATO?
I get it.....
RO/DI water for 35 years

I've had great success with this salt. The Tank Of The Month curse seems to be lifted, but I can't continue to use it with these problems. I'll switch salt and see if it continues...

Smite, I really don't know what it is right now. I did a WC last week, set my tanks salinity at 1.026, checked it this morning and its 1.027.

IIRC, Brightwell had a recall on this salt (it hit me this afternoon) I don't know what the recall was for.

It's really strange. I've had some crazy stuff happen over the years but this beats em all..

Maybe I should stop adding salt to my top off tank ;)
