Caulerpa spp. are invasive in California. As responsible reefers we will not posses, sell or distribute any Caulerpa spp. on SCR. Please take note.

Department of Fish and Game Regulations Section 2300
"2300. (a) No person shall sell, possess, import, transport, transfer, release alive in the state, or give away without consideration the salt water algae of the Caulerpa species:
taxifolia, cupressoides, mexicana, sertulariodes, floridana, ashmeadii, racemosa, verticillata, and scapelliformis.
(b) Notwithstanding subdivision (a), a person may possess, for bona fide scientific research, as determined by the department, upon authorization by the department, the salt water algae of the Caulerpa species: taxifolia, cupressoides, mexicana, sertulariodes, floridana, ashmeadii, racemosa, verticillata, and scapelliformis.
(c) In addition to any other penalty provided by law, any person who violates this section is subject to a civil penalty of not less than five hundred dollars ($500) and not more than ten thousand dollars ($10,000) for each violation."

It really only affects coastal states, because they have an ocean. People in montana dont have to worry about invasive caulerpa, so thats why no laws there, see?

I don't think they worry in Oregon or Washington since I think its too cold to grow up there. I'm sure the Gulf Coast states and Hawaii have some regulations too.

Good point. I was just wondering because one of the sponsers sells them online. I would assume they wouldn't ship to cali then, hopefully.

Edit: just checked, they dont ship to cali. Awesome

Yeah most good vendors will substitute something nice in one of their package deal that usually includes caulerpa though.

Note: only specific species of capulera are illegal in California, not the whole genus. Google search your stuff.
Perhaps.

But short of being a Game Warden or verified Phycologist, all threads related to the distribution of ANY Caulerpa spp. will be deleted. Continued violations of this regulation will be met with administrative action.

Try having Design Patents with refugiums all based using rooted macro algae, spending five years R&D and thousands in trade shows. Then as your product is just taking off and you start making money they outlaw a big part of your process. Thats when i said the hell with this and became a hand model......you might of seen some of my work...like "Five Finger Discount" or maybe "A Fist Makes Her Holler" and who could forget "Fistmas In June" a love story:)

My friend has this stuff in his tank. He recently responded to a PM I wrote to him.

Here is what he said:

"I have it in my tank. It grows about 10-20x faster then chaeto. It's insane how fast it grows. I'll tear out 90% of it and within 3 weeks u can't see the bottom of my fuge. And it grows super thick.

It grows like a vine, so trimming it is kind of a pain. The first time I trimmed it, I accidentally removed 90% of it not paying attention. I was all worried it wouldn't grow back. I was wrong. So now I literally take out almost all of it when I trim. It's really cool stuff."

For the people who do have it in their tanks, I really hope they're disposing of it properly. I'm hoping they freeze it, then throw it in the trash and not just straight in the trash or worse....down the drain.
