Heard that Mg testing isn’t even accurate or even necessary if you’re doing WCs or dose 10% of alk/ca

Mg really doesn't move that much, and basically if you keep it at 1300+...then you are good. I think even 1250+ would be sufficient. I like to keep mine at 1350-1450, so gives me plenty of room to drop and not have issues.

The Trident measures Mg daily, which is overkill for sure and wastes reagents. I use Salifert Mg to calibrate the Trident. But if I didn't have trident, I would just use the Salifert to test Mg weekly or even bi-weekly. Most good reef salt will be around 1350-1400, so if you do consistent water changes, I would think that should be sufficient as well.

NSW of magnesium is roughly 1280ppm, but agree anything above 1300 - 1400 is just fine. I used Salifert in the past, not my favorite, but it usually worked just fine. I think Hanna is a mixed bag, but I like their HR nitrate, ULR phosphorus and alk testers, but haven't used their other testers.

That's crazy low. I haven't added mag to my tank in years and it's pretty high. I guess all that food I feed is loaded with mag. :p
