Speaking of UV, which one(s) do you use? My QT tank will be 20 gal. I have UV on my other tanks but they are much bigger and run in my refugium, which I won't have on this setup.
I use the cheap aquatop internal uv sterilizers. I mainly use it to prevent bacterial blooms. If you want to get a really nice one for not too much more aquauv sells a hob version. Aquauv is the brand I use for my display

This is awesome. I really like your naturalistic approach to observational quarantine. Especially the use of cleaner shrimp and neon gobies. Id really like to try this out one day. There's people who say that peppermint shrimp will eat ich tomonts as well so you may want to throw a few in your qt as well. As far as cleaner shrimp and neon gobies go, they actually only eat the dead skin tissue that is created by ich. They cannot eat parasites that burrow below the epithelial. They can however eat velvet, flukes, and lymphocystis. Do you run a uv sterilizer on your qt as well?
I have heard that cleaner gobies do not eat ich before. All I can say is on several I have put fish with pretty bad cases of ICH in with them and never saw any signs of ICH after the next day. It is good to know they can help with other things. I have peppermint shrimp as well, but have never seen any type of cleaning behavior from them. Perhaps they eat them from the sand bed.

@Dvon0605 ; question I am using cuppermine since I have it on had. Bottle says not to exceed .8mg/l but I been reading copper power is 2ppm
Is it safe to go up to 2mg/l with cuppermine?

I would always recommend following the label instructions. You don't want to risk overdosing something like copper, trust me I know from experience lol. Cupramine is an ionic copper product and copper power is chelated copper. So they have different dosing requirements. With cupramine especially I would recommend ramping up to .8 mg/l over a few days. Cupramine can be especially harsh on copper sensitive fish. Tell us more about your quarantine procedure! I love hearing everyone's methods and like to play around with different ideas!

Hello Devon, how often do you feed while the fish are in quarantine? 2x a day or once a day?

I feed VERY heavy in qt. So they get clam on a halfshell, spectrum pellets, and nori in the morning and PE mysis, rods, and lrs in the evening

Thanks so much. I have my QT tank setup a few days ago. Copper is at 2.5. What's next?
No UV yet.
Just make sure to test daily for copper levels. You don't want them to drop below therapeutic or its back to day 1. I recommend the hanna copper checker. Most reliable copper test out there. UV isn't necessary just good for bacterial blooms. Do you have fish in the qt yet?

I did get the Hanna copper checker. No fish yet. I have some rocks and plumbing joints that I'm cleaning up and then they will be dedicated to the QT. I didn't realize that copper would drop below therapeutic.

Rock can absorb copper and cause copper levels to drop below therapeutic. Also, keep in mind that if you keep copper at 2.5 ppm and water evaporates, copper is left behind and the levels can rise to an unsafe level. I recommend keeping levels just a bit above 2.0

Got it. At what temp do you keep QT water? Right now I just have some cardboard for a lid. I will either get a sheet of glass of plexi.

That's a nice setup you've got there!
