I think it might be easier to drill the back pane pre assembly. You could have a piece of plywood or foam behind the bit to avoid that last minute chip blow threw most get when drilling. Easier to build a mound of putty to keep a pool of water too.
True but I’ve got a process I do when drilling a tank and the last time I drilled a tank I didn’t have one chip. The hole looked Industry done. It took a half an hour but came out super clean.

I'll keep an eye out for the process.

How do you use to space the 1/16 gap while injecting the silicone?

Total cost so far
Tank, sump, and stand $300
Scraper & 200 blades $16
Black silicone $42
Sander & 200 assorted discs $67
3 rolls masking tape $4
4 HF corner clamps $13
4 new 2.5” Eurobrace $275
External overflow $79
$796

The price was going great till I decided to do a new slim Eurobrace.

So what I’ve done it first clean the glass. Then tape both sides of the glass. Then put the hole template and tape it in place on one side then I take a scrap piece of acrylic and tape it of the other side. Then I take 2 large C claps and tighten the acrylic pieces in place just enough to hold them in place and not crack the glass. Last time when I drilled my 150 I did the back wall and I did it with the glass vertical. I then put about 7g of ro waste water inside the tank. I put just enough water that I can use a rio60 with a hose to pump water over the bit. I liked having the glass vertical so that the water washes away the dust. Then my wife holes the hose and acts as a look out for when I when throw the glass and am now drilling the tape on the back side.

I’m not sure if I’m going to injection style or if I’m going to do a tilt up style. Where I’ll apply a large bead on one piece then place the pieces in place. I’d start with the side and have a family member hold the side in place while I put the back on. This is where my markings come into play. I’ll us my square to make sure that the glass pieces are spaced a 1/16 apart from each piece. Then after I’ve got the pieces in perfect place I’ll tape the pieces in place. Then I’ll spread the silicone in the bead with my finger. Then after I’ve spread the silicone and got the excess off I’ll pull the masking tape off to make clean silicone lines.

So hot up a little earlier this morning to do some sanding before getting my workout done. Spent a good hour and 3 3000g discs and not much more was accomplished. The etching feels a lot smoother when I scratch at it with my nail. But it’s still there. So I ordered 20 discs of 800, 900, 1000, 1500, 2000grit

Well I spent a little time sanding the tank this afternoon. I ordered all grits of 5” sanding discs. Sense I wasn’t seeing much results from 600 I worked my way down from 400 to 320 to 240 to 180 to 120 to 100 tell I started see the sand paper actually creating sanding dust. After seeing 100 making a dent I spent about 5 min hitting the etching and scratches. Then after the 100 I stepped to 120 and did another 5 min. Then did about 5 min on 180. At 240 I started seeing a reduction in swirl marks from the sandpaper so I worked it for around 10 min with the 240.
Here’s where I’m at right now.

Next I’m going to hit it at 320, then 400, then 600, then 800, then 1000, and from 1k to 10k I’ll be wet sanding. I’m going to try to get the sanding done this weekend.

Ended up having to pick up a grinder and 5” foam disc attachment. The B&D sander wouldn’t spin fast enough

Started at 120g and so far worked my way up to 400g. The etching is gone now just time to get the glass to clear

Well got one side cleaned up nicely. Still needed to polish it with cerium oxide tho.

But while sanding the other side with 1000g paper tragedy struck

The image speaks for its self

Well so wife doesn’t want me to scrap this project just yet. She said she’ll order the glass if she has to do it behind my back. Well I said let go hit up a few local glass shops in the area a see if I can get it locally. Do you guys think if I ordered 2 60”X24”X 3/4” panels I could go rimless or even a really really slim Eurobrace

I think you can get a panel from a local glass shop for a lot less money. Online seems the most expensive way to buy glass.

Yea I’ve been calling around but they have said “they need to contact there supplier to get a pricing” seems like not a lot of glass companies have the equipment to work with 1/2” thick glass.

They don’t, they order it from a place, I think it’s in LA I wish I could remember where I bought the 24”X 32” X 1/2” I used in my peninsula but I think I only paid $85, thought it wasn’t low-e, it ended up being about $150 less than the best online price I could find.. IIRC, it was in Anaheim. Let me see if I can find those guys
