Hey everyone!

My name is Mason. I live in fountain valley with my wife and 4 kids. I’ve been a member for years but have been silent for quite awhile and I’m just getting back into the hobby.

Back in September I decided to set up a small reef tank for the family in the living room. I had some tanks when I was younger but it’s been over 10 years since I’ve had a tank. It was difficult to explain to my wife and kids that it needed to sit empty to cycle but it was worth the wait and they really enjoy it now.

Current setup is an Intake Chamber One Media basket which I run with filter floss on top and chemi pur blue. In the second chamber I have marine pure gems and the heater. Third chamber has a mighty jet mini return pump. I have two RFG for the return. I’m still running the stock light.

My son helped set it up.

Got the clean up crew setup and stared at a glass box of water for awhile.

Picked up these two clowns as a Christmas present from my wife. They are my wife’s favorite thing by fair and she is always obsessed with how they are doing.

Added a pistol shrimp and yasha goby. Haven’t seen the goby much at all but the shrimp comes out whenever I feed the tank.

Picked up a fire shrimp and rose bubble tip a few weeks ago. The fire shrimp is a new favorite and the kids love when I target feed him.

The other day I went to a coral hustler and got a few corals to start. They have only been in the tank for a few days and I’m sure I will move them around. Got a GSP, some pulsing Xenia, a mushroom, Kenya tree and waving hands. He also gifted my daughters the two small chalices. One is a Hollywood stunner but I forgot the other one.

So far everything seems to be doing okay. I am a little worried about the waving hand laying down like that as the flow isn’t very strong. I’m open to any suggestions on placement and variety as this is my first attempt into corals besides a flowerpot I had in my tank when I was younger.

Awesome that the kids are involved. Get em hooked early.

My first tank also had a yashia and shrimp pair, it was fun to watch them dig out the burrow and go in.

I'm in Orange, so not far from FV. Once the tank settles in, I have zoas and other beginner hardy corals that you can try.

Nice! I set up a 22g in my son's room and it was a lot of fun, in fact it was probably one of my most successful tanks I've ever ran. Welcome to the club! Might wanna move the strats away from the tank though, salt mist is a bitch on electronics. How long have you been playing?

@Jimbo327 ; Yeah it’s super fun keeping the family involved and they love the shrimp and goby. Thanks for the offer for the zoas and corals I’ll keep that in mind. Your tank looks incredibly btw. Definitely something to strive for.

@drexel ; I’m debating on moving this tank into the kids room when I upgrade. It’s so hard not to want to immediately upgrade to a larger tank. Those guitars are sadly more just decoration. I play a little bit but mainly play piano and bass.

I say enjoy this tank for as long as you can, as there's always time to upgrade down the road. Besides, I love nano tanks, they can be a lot of fun and you'll be surprised by how much life is in these little glass boxes.
Do you have a main bass you play? Jazz? P-bass?
