Setting up a new tank, put everything from old tank into a 40g breeder holding tank. New tanks been cycled and I've already moved the tangs to new tank.

Been trying to move the clown fish over when I say clown fish eggs on the rock. Now I don't know what to do. A quick Google search says their on the 2nd day and I don't know what to do please help.

thanks for the response. this is the first batch, so everyones super excited. right now they are in the holding tank. still havent decided if we wanna keep this up after the first batch but i would assume the next batches will be in the main tank so will probably leave it be, i do care, just not super into spending money to get a hatchery going, either way. thanks for the input

When they are happy and are getting enough food, they will lay eggs every 12-14 days. My clowns have been laying eggs consistently for the past 6 years. Sometimes they skip a week or two, but then they're back at it. Unless you're set up to raise them, they become part of the food chain.

hi, thanks for the response. this wife told the kids about it so now were doing it lol
bought a 10g tank and setup and sponge filter with macrobact7 and a heater. ordered a hatchery cone and tank partition. ordered some rotis, rg complete from reef nutrition and hopefully thats enough to get this working, i dont think anything will be ready in time for this batch, but hopefully next batch will.

In your experience, if left alone in the DT, what are the chances of survival?

There’s no food source for them, so they become food themselves. Add in flow, coral polyps feeding, other fish and pods, zero chance of survival. There are a few books on clownfish breeding that you can buy on Amazon (used) for cheap. Actually, there are a lot of books worth picking up used on Amazon with a wealth of information on reef keeping. I still reference books from the 90’s and earlier. The fundamentals of reef keeping are primarily unchanged, so there’s a lot of great info/knowledge that you can’t get from forums and lame YouTube channels. Books are like metalmetal halides, hard to beat.
Also, I would reach out to Jamie (she’s on RC’s local forum and maybe here?), she’s been very successful at raising these little guys. Maybe offer her something for her advice/knowledge? A little gratitude goes a long way. Good luck!
